OT, RIP Keith Jackson a Legend

Legendary broadcaster Keith Jackson, who spent some 50 years calling the action in a folksy, down-to-earth manner, has died at the age of 89.

"He did it for a long, long time. ... He never intruded on the game. It was always about the kids on the field. Never, never shining the light on himself. And that was one of the things that I most admired about him."
A lot of announcers could stand to do the same.

Keith was the best IMO. He as a Coug and I think a Dawg as well

One of my favorites, he was all about the game and the players, and yes BirdDog, a lot of today's announcers could learn a great deal. RIP

Even though I care a lot about my basketball opinions, they are like comparing a bicycle to a championship motorcycle who is our coach. . ZagsGoZags

Super nice guy. He won't be replaced. Unified, funny. Down to earth and very good at his job.
                RIP .

Does Bob Grease work at the Jiffy Lube ?

I suspect former broadcaster & NFL HOF'er Bob Griese would agree with you, ceo.

RIP, Mr. Jackson. From Wide World of Sports to football to basketball. . .I always thought he ranked near the top with guys like Kurt Gowdy, Dick Enberg, Bill King, Jim McKay.

Not many announcers are adept at calling that many sports.

                  New York Times Obituary: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/01/13/o...dead.html?_r=0

He joined the Marines as a teenager, then attended Washington State University in Pullman, Wash., receiving a degree in broadcast journalism in 1954. Mr. Jackson spent 10 years at the ABC affiliate KOMO in Seattle in news, sports and production, became sports director of ABC Radio West, then began broadcasting college football for ABC Sports in 1966.

                      More interesting stuff about Keith

He wasn't afraid of a bit of silence during a broadcast, there was never any unnecessary babbling when he was in the booth.

Mr. Jackson was the professional, intelligent commentator that we could use more of today.
                          Rest in Peace.

I can vaguely remember watching him on tv at the end of a Husky FB season in the early 60's announcing that he was moving on to a new gig.
