Sergio Marchionne, the former chief executive officer of Fiat Chrysler and architect of the automaker’s dramatic turnaround, has died. He was 66.

Paul Laxalt, the son of Basque immigrants who rose to political power as a Nevada governor, U.S. senator and close ally to Ronald Reagan, has died. He was 96.

Laxalt died Monday at a health care facility in Virginia, according to the public relations firm The Ferraro Group.

The conservative Republican had a storied political career, including a brief run for president in 1987. But he described that bid as “the four most miserable months of my life,” and in a 2000 interview with The Associated Press said he was happy to be out of politics.

    HERO.

Two things have always stood out to me about this man.

    1.
Shot down over Hanoi, suffering broken arms and a shattered leg, he was subjected to solitary confinement for two years and beaten frequently. him.
His weight fell to 105 pounds. He rejected early release to keep his honor and to avoid an enemy propaganda coup or risk demoralizing his fellow prisoners.

    2.
At some McCain rallies, vitriolic crowds disparaged black people and Muslims, and when a woman said she did not trust Mr. Obama because “he’s an Arab,” Mr. McCain, in one of the most lauded moments of his campaign, replied: “No, ma’am. He’s a decent family man, a citizen that I just happen to have disagreements with on fundamental issues.”

    1. Hero
    2. Leader

I can't believe how far things have changed so quickly.

I wish that John McCain had been our Commander in Chief on September 11th, 2001.

    That is all.

Disagreed quite a bit with much of his politics... but this saddened me because I truly respected him as a man. I respected that he, with one glaring exception in 2008, stuck to who he was and was never a man beholden to party, but rather to country.

Name the movie shot in Spokane with Burt?
Dissent, insight and contextual discussion makes a website 'sticky' and engaging - not just predictable, safe position fanboyism. Monoculture is uninteresting and lacks intellectual depth.

    End Game!

Did not see it but friends worked on it. Not sure how Spokane passed for DC, though.

Then again... the remake of Red Dawn (horrible as it was) was supposed to be in Spokane Washington... yet nary a Tamarac pine tree to be seen in the movie... let alone any part of the Spokane skyline. Most of it was filmed in Michigan. SMDH.
