6'5" guard from my high school alma mater: Jamesville-DeWitt HS in Jamesville, NY...suburb of Syracuse. Was named Central New York's large school player of the year. Pretty sure he is 2018 recruit but no time to check that right now. This is definitely not just a case of Few doing his buddy Jim Bosheim a favor. He's likely to get more offers before end of his senior year.

No way Buddy pops up on our radar, if not for Coach Boeheim.

Him and Mark at extremely close, best friends.

Buddy received an offer from UMass and has SOME interest via A-10 schools. Considered a local talent, 2* prospect who can shoot. Unmarked by most recruiting services. Smart kid, yet not nearly athletic enough (yet).

I have a strong inkling/suspicion Coach reached out to Coach, if you catch my drift. Jim Boeheim has always gushed about our style of play and our program.

Gonzaga would never offer this kid, in NY, no visit, etc without trust b/w friends.

Nothing wrong with it, but definitely more to the story here. Maybe to help generate more interest in Buddy or just helping him out? 'Cuse may not even offer...

When your own Coach is saying, "he can play in the Atlantic 10, at least..." Speaks for itself.

A mid-major type of talent, but could be a nice fit for the program. A bench guy.

Might need to redshirt as a freshman, but he has size and shoots lights out and Boeheim is a HOF coach. Says in the interview he will likely decide at the end of the summer.

Coaches kids are always good players/people to have in the program.

While the offer seems a bit far-fetched based on our recruiting trends lately -- in more ways than one -- he would be a welcome addition.

ps. McNamara was also considered a Top-10 PG nationally by the time he was a Junior, not to mention a 4* by every recruiting service and Top-75 recruit nationally.

Maybe this kid has that type of potential, and maybe 'Cuse will end up offering him as well.

Syracuse, N.Y. -- Fresh from an impressive shooting performance at the Nike EYBL's premier event, Peach Jam, Buddy Boeheim received a scholarship offer from the 2016-17 NCAA finalist.
Gonzaga lost to North Carolina in the 2017 national championship game. The Zags traditionally place a premium on shooters and Boeheim has proven he can make perimeter shots during this summer's sneaker circuit.
He made 55 percent of his shots overall (22-40) in five pool play games at Peach Jam. He shot a whopping 57 percent from the 3-point line (16-28) during those games.
Buddy, the younger son of Jim and Juli Boeheim, plays for the Albany City Rocks, which qualified for Peach Jam, finished 4-1 in pool play and advanced to the quarterfinals of the tournament last weekend. There, the City Rocks lost to Team Takeover and Villanova commit Brandon Slater. Buddy Boeheim (3-9, 1-5) and most of his teammates struggled to make shots in that game.
Buddy Boeheim will attend Brewster Academy in 2017-18 for his final year of high school and play for a program that routinely puts players into high Division I programs. Many of them have attended SU, Taurean Thompson being the most recent Brewster grad to play for the Orange.
Boeheim has said he is considering playing for his dad at Syracuse, though he has yet to determine whether that would be the best option for his college basketball career. He likely will gain more offers from other programs as the summer wears on.

i'm not sure, but i'd imagine so. i believe sarbaugh had free tuition due to a parent who had previously worked as a professor at GU.

While Rem didn't get a scholarship offer, he did come in as a walk-on and provided off the court "masterfulness." Rem is also the son of a very successful high school coach. Having these types may not always show up on the scoreboard, but they definitely impact the team in positive and immeasurable ways.

Buddy could have a similar impact.

Exactly. He's on the cusp of possibly turning into a very good D-I recruit after showing well on summer circuit vs high level opposition. Isn't this exactly the kind of player and recruiting strategy Zags have consistently used? Offer the rising talent before the glamour teams do to better your chances of landing him.

Borderline rude and some kind of bias for so many fans to label him a likely walk-on or charity case schollie offer just because he's white, coach's son and son of a close friend of Few's. Give Zags more credit than that.

I thought he might have been wanting to go somewhere else and prove that his roster spot wasn't nepotism. I don't have strong feelings about this kid either way but would not ever be surprised if a coach's kid tried to prove himself by going to a school other than the one where his dad is coaching.

ETA: this might have been diplomatic all the way so that Boeheim could answer any criticisms about potential nepotism by saying that the national title runner-up offered him.
