    Default Olynyk KOs Celts

BOSTON -- Boston Celtics coach Brad Stevens enjoys seeing his former players pass through TD Garden. But he wishes they'd stop playing so well on their first trips back.

Kelly Olynyk scored a career-high 32 points, including six 3-pointers, to help the short-handed Miami Heat deal the Celtics a 90-89 loss on Wednesday night.

Olynyk, a 2013 draftee whose final season in green was highlighted by a monster Game 7 performance in Boston's triumph over the Washington Wizards in the Eastern Conference semifinals, might have trumped that performance on a night when he connected on 12-of-15 shots over 38 minutes.

After his sixth 3-pointer of the night gave Miami a 10-point lead with 4:13 to play, Olynyk could be seen confidently chirping at Boston's bench. He added a pair of driving layups and a free throw while scoring Miami's final eight points in the final 2:45.

"I blacked out. I don't remember," Olynyk said when asked about his trash talk. "I was just really emotional.
In the linked article, there's a nice segment regarding KO's charity work while he was a Celtic.

    That’s bad ass KO!
“I don’t expect us to be perfect anytime soon,” guard Silas Melson said, “but one thing I do expect is trying to get better every day and playing tougher, harder and more physical than the opponent.”

he hit most of his bombs right in front of Stevens, and K.O. was glancing at their bench shaking his head with pleasure. What a way to return to a team that didn't want you. Go K.O.

Haha he priced himself out. 4 years 50 million is a lot for a role player. He has shown the ability tohave these type of games in the NBA but hasn't been able to do it with consistency

Not true! The Celtics originally offered Kelly a qualifying of $4.1 million but then the offer was rescinded, to make cap space for the free agent signing of Gordon Hayward. KO did not have a choice in playing for the Celtics this season.

I realize that it hurts to be traded from an up and coming team, one of the few able to maybe even reach a final in the ridiculously lopsided NBA, but if one is going to be a journeyman on a journey-less team, there are many worse ways to get revenge than making $12 million a year as a single guy playing basketball in Miami.

KO didn't get traded but signed as a free agent. Boston simply couldn't afford him. But yeah, not a bad deal.

He he also had a huge dunk on Kyrie Irving that was featured on ESPN.com. He landed awkwardly and was limping up the floor afterwards. Hope he was OK.

"Olynyk rises up for clutch posterizing slamKelly Olynyk puts Jaylen Brown and Kyrie Irving on a poster in his return to Boston, sealing the victory for the Heat"

"Olynyk sticks it to Celtics in Boston homecoming"

"Olynyk and fellow former Celtic Jordan Mickey combined for more points and rebounds (40 points, 15 rebounds) than Irving and Horford (39 points, 12 rebounds)."

KO had that special type of thing where he was the nicest dude in the world off the court, but when he laced up the 'screw you' attitude lit on fire

Oh! Thanks for the correction. Yes, they had to dump him to get the other dudes. As you note, that's a pretty soft landing.

This particular team we have may have more overall talent than the one Kelly played for, number one seed and all, but it could sure use some of that fire you mention.

KO didn't want to leave Boston and Boston dint want KO to leave. It was just the reality of the business that is the NBA.
KO and Coach Stevens had a great relationship (on a personal level) and there are many quotes out there from both (and team mates) lamenting how Boston couldn't keep KO there. He was great in the community and great with his team mates, but guys always get fired up games like this.

KO talked in an interview last night how the entire team rallies when guys go back to their former teams. Everyone gets fired up for it and supports the team mate for a big game. I am sure KO got extra minutes, passes, screens, (everything!) last night. There are always big emotions tied up in it, whether you leave on good terms or not. Jonas Jerberko came into Boston last week and torched them for his season high 17 points. These are always good games to watch out for if you play Fantasy Sports.

I see no need to rush this awesome story to Old Dogs until folks get a chance to see it.
