Serious Penalties Announced by NCAA vs. Pacific

"The men's basketball team at Pacific has been punished by the NCAA for academic and recruiting violations under former coach Ron Verlin. ... I guess that'll show North Carolina who's boss.

Done to show North Carolina how bad it could have been!

I don't expect more than a slap on the wrist, after all, 20+ years of academic fraud pales in light of what Pacific did! (What DID they do?)

"The NCAA said Wednesday that [former Men's Head Basketball Coach Ron] Verlin failed to promote an atmosphere of compliance when he violated academic misconduct and recruiting rules to get prospects eligible. He also failed to monitor his coaches and violated NCAA ethics rules when he encouraged others to give false information during the investigation. The baseball program was also cited because former coach Ed Sprague impermissibly provided an athletic training student with a $16,000 scholarship to help with the housing costs of two baseball student-athletes, including her brother."

"Ron Verlin ... the former head coach of the men's basketball team at the University of the Pacific ... is ... the twin brother of Idaho Vandals men's basketball coach Don Verlin."

"Verlin and former assistant Dwight Young were both hit with eight-year show-cause penalties. Former assistant Joe Ford received a seven-year show-cause penalty."

I was being sarcastic. Different set of rules for them who makes the money.

I think Pacific should refuse to accept the judgement until the NCAA deals with UNC. I believe many courts would issue the order when they saw that UNC has been cheating for over 20 years, and has been changing the rules as they go, finally challenging whether the NCAA has any right to rule on academic violations.

If it doesn't apply to UNC, it shouldn't apply to Pacific.

SMC got smacked a few years back, Pacific gets smacked now, & UNC hangs championship banners.

CZF reality must be faced...UNC cheated their athletes from getting an education by allowing this travesty to continue for 20 years.
They acted as if nothing was wrong and played with ineligible players, won ACC titles and NCAA Championships!

MGK was stating what many of us feel that because UNC wins championships they will not be penalized any where near IF AT ALL what UOP just received.

They play in such a weak conference, no wonder they were cheating.
