Update on Shelby Cheslek

For those who like to keep up with our former (and always will remain) Lady Zags:

Shelby was not drafted but was offered a training camp contract with the Phoenix Mercury (Last Year). She remained with the team until the final cut in 2016.

She signed with a Greek team and she lead her Greek team to the semi-finals of their championship where they were defeated. The Greek Championship was won by a team lead by our own. Keani Albanez.

After the Greek BB season she signed with the Southwest Metro Pirates in Australia where in 10 games she is averaging 16.6 PPG shooting 48.4% from the field and 13.4 RPG. The 13.4 RPG is leading the league.

Shelby has just signed a contract to play in Hungary this fall.

seeing the world and seeing her friends...I think Keani was one of her closest friends, and now she has Kayla in Australia...Hope she got to see Sunny in Germany....there's people that complain about Title Nine but look what opportunities are available for these young women....its a fantastic thing..

Shelby has now played in 11 games for the Pirates and she has 9 double-doubles. She is averaging 15.6 points per game (47.45%) and 13.6 rounds per game.

She is leading the league in rebounding and is second in the league at 30 blocks.

Way to go Shelby.

Shelby has finished the summer league and is heading home before going off to Hungary.

She finished up leading the Australian QBL in rebounds and finished second in blocks. She played in 16 games for the Pirates and her final stats were as follows:

Points per Game = 14.3 @ 47.7%
Rebounds per Game = 13.6

Great Job.

It is always nice to hear what the Zag Women are upto after graduating. As a person and player, you become attached to them and like family, it is always good to hear from them and to see what they are doing.

It's great to see Shelby getting an opportunity to see the world and still play the sport she enjoys.

Shelby has now played in three (3) games for her Hungarian team (1-2).

Shelby's Stats:
Game 1 - 27 min., 13 pts (5-6, 3-6 FTM), 6 Rebs, 3 Ast, & 1 TO
Game 2 - 31 min., 10 pts (3-6, 4-6 FTM), 14 Rebs, 3 Ast, & 5 TO
Game 3 - 32 min., 12 pts (6-13, 0-2 FTM), 11 Rebs, 2 Ast, & 0 TO

Shelby was named player of the game in their win in the 3rd game.
