At the end of the regular season Sloot and the Chicago Sky did not make the 2017 playoffs.

Sloot did end up with the highest average assists per game at 8.1 Assists per game this season. Another record for our favorite Zag.

Here is the WNBA write-up on Sloot.

We probably ought to retire her number for all Zag basketball teams.

Sloot is now #16 on the all-time assist list with a total of 1127 assists. Sue Bird is the new all-time assist leader with 2,610 at the end of the regular season. For the season Sloot finished second in the WNBA with 218 assists in 2017 only eight (8) behind the league leader Layshia Clarendon but Clarendon played seven more games this year than Sloot due to Courtney's overseas commitments (Turkey & Hungary).

Sloot is now 3rd all-time with an average of 5.4 assists per game. She only trails Sue Bird at 5.5 assists per game and Ticha Penicheiro at 5.7 assists per game. As noted above, this year, Courtney averaged 8.1 assists per game.

With a similar season next year, Courtney should break into the top 10 in total assists and in two (2) years be at #6 or #5 depending on how many assists those in front of her get next year. To break the all time record she will need to play 8-10 more years assuming no significant injury and depending on when Sue Bird retires.

I would expect that she will get the record for total assists in a single season if she plays the entire season.

    Good Luck Courtney.

Add in another award for Sloot. Courtney won the 2017 WNBA Peak Performer Award in Assists.

Like Jones, Vandersloot earned her Peak Performer Award with a record-setting season. Vandersloot averaged 8.1 assists per game, breaking Ticha Penicheiro’s record of 8.0 assists with the Sacramento Monarchs in 2002. This marks the second assists title in seven seasons for Vandersloot, who averaged a league-leading 5.8 assists in 2015 – her previous career high.

The 2015 All-WNBA Second Team selection set a WNBA record this season with six consecutive games with at least 10 assists. The 5-8 Vandersloot notched a career-high 14 assists against the Los Angeles Sparks on July 20, tied for the most in a WNBA game this season.

Atlanta Dream guard Layshia Clarendon was second in assist average with 6.65 per game. New all-time assists leader Sue Bird of Seattle (6.63 apg), Wings guard Skylar Diggins-Smith (5.8) and Sun forward Alyssa Thomas (4.5) rounded out the top five.
