    Another Postseason Honor for Morgan

Junior RHP named Second Team All-West Region

    June 19, 2017

SPOKANE, Wash.—Junior RHP Eli Morgan added yet another postseason honor to his trophy case recently, being named Second Team All-West Region by Rawlings and the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).

In 2017, Morgan had a standout junior season in which he struck out 138 batters in 100.2 innings of work. That’s the second-most strikeouts by a Zag pitcher in a single season, and he moved to third with 283 career Ks. The Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., native also went 10-2 with a 2.86 ERA this season, posting two shutouts amidst a 27.1 scoreless-inning streak from Feb. 27 to March 24. On March 17, he pitched a one-hitter against Pacific, retiring the first 23 batters he faced and ending the contest with 13 strikeouts and zero walks.

The ABCA honor is one of several postseason accolades for Morgan; he’s already been named First Team All-America from Perfect Game/Rawlings, Second Team All-America from Collegiate Baseball, and First Team All-West Coast Conference. He was also added to the Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List, and he earned five conference Pitcher of the Week and three national Player of the Week awards as well.

Last week, Morgan was selected in the eighth round of the MLB First Year Player Draft by the Cleveland Indians.
