    Default 2016-2017 Pre-season Rankings -- Xavier Top 10

Xavier was ranked Top-10 in every AP/Coaches Poll, including all reputable sports writers, blogs, etc. Ranked ahead of Gonzaga in each poll. Interesting.

Was not aware Xavier made the Sweet 16 last season, and returned their entire lineup, plus added 2 integral transfers. This season was considered a disappoint, but now playing up to their lofty expectations following adversity. This Xavier team caught the eyes of the 'experts' early on, and was predicted as a 2 seed before the season began.

This opponent is clearly talented…and hot. Some considered their "gigantic" guards the most potent in the NCAA. Have a feeling Maryland, FSU, & Arizona thought they were gifted a great chance vs an 11 seed too. I found these early polls intriguing and potentially indicative.

USA Today Coaches Poll: Xavier #8

    NCAA Title Contenders: Xavier #7

    SB Nation Pre-Season: Xavier #6

The AP Top 25 Poll: Xavier #7

    247 Sports Rankings: Xavier #9

    Athlon Sports Ranking: Xavier #8

    Campus Insiders: Xavier #7

    Even Bleacher Report: Xavier #10

    The list goes on...

I think this is the toughest team Gonzaga has played all year....the seeding is meaningless at this point....the Zags will have to play at least their B game on offense to win...defense and depth may not be enough, someone needs to score...

    completely agree.

we must make shots, because we know Xavier will.

the moment you watch them the past month, the moment you realize how good they are -- at drawing fouls and making incredibly tough shots. Precisely how BYU bested us.

They made ridiculous deep 3's, 19 foot jumpers from 6'10" dudes, and made FT's.

Someone, not just Jordan Mathew's patented 3-8, or 2-6 3pt shooting will cut it this game. Jordan is a near 40% 3pt shooter that actually shoots 35-40% every game, no more, no less. Never had a 6 for 8, 4 for 5, 4 for 4, etc type of performance. Wonder why?

I'm feeling(hoping?) Perkins comes alive, maybe NWG, but we'll see…

Their guards are tough to stop, and their shots are like Florida's vs Wisconsin. Just crazy they go in from anywhere and however they shoot it.

Coach Few stated this during his pre-game presser. "Xavier makes contested, guarded shots, and we have to somehow make them harder for them".

Defense wins this game. But the way we've been shooting, defense need some points. Make some shots. We've gone cold. COLD since the last St Marys game.
