we all gripe about free throws now and again, because it can cost you a game. I get it and I may well rant and rave sometime this year, who knows..........

but I'm about to blow your mind, last year our team shot 75.8 from the free throw line, and that was 14th best in the nation!

just so you know if a team shoots even 70.0% from the line, that is better than the average team.

Mount Karno looked very solid from the line in the exhibition game ???......that would be a terrific advantage if it is a sign of things to come..

agreed on all counts. this will come up occasionally, even if we are an excellent FT shooting team (again) this year. and i totally understand why. i just figured i'd get the thread going and make sure the first post is a positive one so that, when it comes up next time, it'll help us keep a bit of perspective .

I think there is another thread similar to this one in the files, but this will work...

It cost us the last game of the regular season. Left A LOT of points on the line.

What's hard is that a lot of the misses are coming from the starting frontcourt who gets fouled a lot because of how good they are offensively.

At least one player who I care not to name appeared to be uncharacteristicly shooting his free throws stiff legged. Never good for the rhythm.

Zags were 16-20 in WCC Championship.

Just had a bad day; it happens.

There are a couple who need to think about going underhand. Certainly JWIII over the summer for one. Don't let pride stand in the way of results. Too late for karno, although he shot OK today.

we already have a reputation for being a soft team. the last thing we need is granny shooting free throws

New FTs thread for 2017-2018. If not, here goes: Zags shoot 21/26 on the road vs UW, Norvell is getting to the line and JW3 is putting some nice arc on his freebies. Love it.

They're human. Some guys have attacks of nerves on the ft line in big games. Others calmly make them. I'm sure all kinds of stuff has been tried. Big ft's are being missed all over college bb.

Anyone with a universal solution to this would make millions.

Sure, but 19-31 is inexcusable. Missed ft's just cost Houston the game over Michigan. At least Few knows not to have JWIII in there at crunch time.

Of course it is important, but most likely more detrimental to focus a spotlight on it. Not like they do not practice them. Nerves play a role, but can’t practice your way out of that. Most likely the best scenario was what transpired. Hit clutch free throws at the end to boost confidence. Hopefully that leads to better performance.
