    Looking at this years roster

Just had a look at this years roster... 12 players. I don't know if I remember one this lean... and I kind of like it. You have 12 very good players that may see that they might get a little playing time in a game. That may help on both attitude and competing for time in a game. Our 3 seniors are redshirts meaning we will be saying good by to them after this year. With 4 verbals for next year that would put the team at 13 players... still a good number.
I see we won't have Heather this year... sorry to see that. Always nice to have a past player involved. Hopefully one might show up...

    Go Zags!!

Amanda Brown is on staff. Director of Basketball Operations.

"As a member of the GU women’s basketball team, Brown won a trio of West Coast Conference titles from 2007 to 2009. She was a key reserve and defensive specialist for the Bulldogs. In 2008-09, she earned an athletic scholarship after being a walk-on, and was the team’s co-captain. Brown was a member of the first GU team to advance to the NCAA Tournament in 2007, and the first team to advance to the second round in 2009."

SkipZag - You're spot on about 12 players this year and looking like 13 players next year.

I find it necessary to keep a spreadsheet of the team's roster for the previous year, the current year, and 4 years into the future, just to keep all the info in one spot. Looks a lot like the chart ZN does for the men, but doesn't distinguish between scholies and walk-ons.

This is what it currently looks like. If anyone spots any errors, please let me know and I'll update it.

Great chart Zagineer... Really shows how a RS can change the numbers for different years.

Yes, we watched Amanda play... Great team player.
I was looking for another grad student like Heather... especially one with their picture on the wall of McCarthey. Seems to help remind the players of the success of the past.

Please share your chart in the future...

Thanks for the chart, Zagineer! Very nice and informative. Is it just wishful thinking on my part or do we look loaded this year? At least on paper, I like it!

            thx for the chart....nice work....already regretting 2019 when we loose 5 players...ugh...

as far the team goes, I worry more about players not getting enough time...I really want Zhane and Zee to be able to show their stuff in expanded minutes...and yes, I think we are loaded.....there can be no excuses this year.....its on the coaches......

            excited to see Mac....

Thanks, all. Let me see if I can improve the resolution of the image. The first one was Excel to PDF to JPEG to Photobucket. This one is Excel to PDF to PNG to Photobucket.

              [IMG][/IMG]

Looks a little more clear. I'll use PNG from now on.

Zagineer - Thank you for your spreadsheet. It certainly makes keeping track of the scholarship players and available scholarships very easy.

We do have a lean team this year. However, last year with the injuries to Emma and Ellie and with Mac and Chandler sitting, we only had 12 active players on the team. That is one of the problems with a small team; injuries can have a much more devastating effect on a small team.

If everybody stays healthy and plays well, it will be hard enough to get playing time for the players at the end of the bench. However, if we incur a couple of injuries (like last year) particularly to our bigs, we may wish we had another player or two.

                  ZagDad...
Very true on the concerns about injuries... 12 use to be the prime number for the varsity BB team... but they usually had a JV team to fall back on. I look at the RS as the standby/JV players if needed. The men's team had to burn a RS a couple of years ago due to injury. They were lucky the player that went down was able to earn a medical defer. This year, half the women's team is made up of RS players... with none in reserve. They go down for the season and well... Let's hope for the best.

I love this thread. Great posts. The last couple posts made me modify my chart... for the better. It now shows the total number in the roster, and also the total number available to play in parenthesis. Obviously, a big difference.

Looks like the jersey numbers have settled down, so I added them to the chart. Makes it easier to memorize them before Game 1 starts. After all, 5 of the 12 numbers this year were not on the court last year.

Your chart just keeps getting better Zagineer.... Thanks, makes for a good discussion about the future and what us arm chairs think.
That being said... Next year, I think we need another player... With loosing 5 players the following year, we will need to come up with 5 players to replace them or we are in trouble. Possibly a transfer that fits in with this years freshmen.

Spot on, Skip. It's a big cliff after the 2018-2019 season. With only 12 on the roster right now, it would be nice to start to build up for that departure in the future, but not "put all of our eggs into one basket". I'm sure that our coaching staff is well aware of this and is acting upon it.

I'm also sure that every D-1 women's team coach would love to get into a cycle of 15 players, with all staying 5 years (RS year included), and distributed such that only 3 players depart every year. But,..... so much for dreams. Reality is, our coaches must deal with a 5-player departure year in 2018-2019.

As for my chart, thanks Terp and Skip for your posts. My plan is to maintain and update this chart for as long as I am able to do so. Hopefully, for many years to come. I am trying to figure out how to make the size of the image posted bigger for us old folks to read, but I'm not there yet. In the meantime,.... if you hold the "Ctrl" button on your key board and then scroll the roller on your mouse, you can reduce the image size scrolling in one direction, or increase the image size scrolling in the other direction. (Many of you may already know this, but maybe not everyone).

The time is approaching rapidly,..... but not soon enough. Go Lady Zags!!

Thanks for updating the chart zagineer. It keeps getting better and better.

I think the coaches are on the 2018-2019 departure of five. We lose three (3) ladies this year but bring in four (4) so we are up to 13. In 2018 we only lose two (2) athletes so there is a big chance to stock the cupboard.
