Zags Beat Washington State in Pullman

7-4 win clinches the series against regional rivals

PULLMAN, Wash.--The Gonzaga University baseball team clinched a series win against local rival Washington State Tuesday, beating the Cougars 7-4 at Bailey-Brayton Field in Pullman, Wash...

    Bulldog Bites:

•With the win, Gonzaga clinches the season series against Washington State after they beat the Cougars 8-0 in Spokane April 5. The Zags have not lost a season series to Washington State since 2011 and are 10-3 over their local rivals during that time. The two clubs will square off once more this year: May 17 in Pasco, Wash...

    Next Up:

The Bulldogs (22-12, 10-5 WCC) resume West Coast Conference play while starting their final home series of year. Santa Clara will be in town for that three-game set, the first of which will begin at 6:00 p.m. Friday, April 22, at Patterson Baseball Complex & Washington Trust Field.

Hey Terp (or anyone else): Does anyone know why the Zags league schedule was so road heavy this year? Zags have 3 series at home & 6 on the road?

You would expect a 4/5 or 5/4 split every year. Just checked last year's schedule vs this year & see that the Zag's were 5/4 last year & alternated with everyone but LMU, playing them on the road for 2 straight years. Anyone know the background on that?

sittingon50, I went back and took a look at the Gonzaga announcement of their 2016 baseball schedule and this explanation of the WCC home and away schedule
    this season was given.

After a bye in the first weekend of May, Gonzaga will head back down to Los Angeles for a three-game stint at Loyola Marymount. The Bulldogs' series against the Lions was originally scheduled to take place in Spokane this season, but it was moved to Los Angeles to allow GU to play at home during graduation weekend in 2017.

As a result, Gonzaga only plays a total of 12 home games this season.

    Thanks Terp.

Figured it had to be something pretty important to give up some home games. Bet they didn't have to twist LMU's arms too hard.
