SAN BRUNO, Calif.—Right hander Brandon Bailey was named WCC/Rawlings Pitcher of the Week by the West Coast Conference office Monday after a stellar start and win at No. 7/9 TCU March 4.

Bailey easily saw his best outing of the year against the Horned Frogs, striking out nine in 7.0 innings of work while holding TCU to three runs. He earned the win after Gonzaga scored two in the top of the seventh inning for a 4-3 lead.

A junior, Bailey is second in the WCC and among the top 40 in the nation with 23 total strikeouts. His 11.50 strikeouts per nine innings mark is also second-best in the conference. He’s also raised his strikeout/walk ratio to 5.75/1, by far the best of his career at Gonzaga.

This is Bailey’s fifth career Pitcher of the Week award but first of the season after winning the award once as a freshman and three times last season. He was also named Preseason All-WCC by the conference coaches in February.

The Gonzaga baseball squad will be back in action Tuesday, March 8 when they take on No. 14 Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark. First pitch for that contest is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. Pacific.
