Default Jill Barta All WCC 1st Team

    Congratulations Jill,

Named to the 1st team All WCC as well as the All-WCC Freshman Team. She and Erica Ogwumike of Pepperdine are only the 11th and 12th freshman ever to be named to the 1st team All-WCC as freshman. The only other GU players to have been named All-WCC as freshman were Courtney Vandersloot and Heather Bowman.

Congratulations to Shelby Cheslek for being named all-wcc honorable mention.

    WE'RE WITNESSING HISTORY
    - Jill Barta's 393 points are the fourth-most by a freshman in GU history. Jill has 416 points after the BYU game. If the ladies could make it to the WCC tourney finals she would have a chance to overtake Tammy Tibbles as the all-time leading scorer as a freshman.Tammy Tibbles owns the record at 475.
    - Barta's 13.6 points per game leads the Zags. She can be the first freshman in program history to lead a team in scoring in a season.
    - She is four rebounds away from the top-10 most boards by a freshman in program history. She gathered 10 rebounds against BYU and now stands in eighth with the tourney to go.
    - Barta became only the third freshman in program history to score 30 points in a game. Heather Bowman was the last with 32 points in 2006, and Amy Simpson was the first with a program-record 38 points in 1983.
    - Barta's 271 points in West Coast Conference play are sixth on the program's all-time list. With her 23 points agains BYU she ended conference play with 294 points.
    - Her 271 points in West Coast Conference action are the most in program history by a freshman. With her 23 points agains BYU she ended conference play with 294 points.
Outstanding Jill. A very well deserved honor.

I thought see had a chance at the Freshman team, surprised that she was also on the first team, guess other coaches wish they had someone with Jill's potential. Great job JB.

Really happy for Jill and for Shelby. Very well deserved by both. Now, let's go to Vegas and see which Zag ends up as the MVP when we win the Championship! Go Zags!

very, very happy for Jill and her family.....very happy for Shelby too.....nothing makes ME happier then when our good "kids" are recognized.....I imagine the whole WCC especially that mean ol byu coach is just besides themselves with our "luck" with gettin Jill.....I think most of them thought the good old days for Gonzaga dominance was over but on the contrary....we have simply stalled on our upward trajectory, IMO of course...we're ready to take off again....
