    Default Gary Bell Jr.

Just heard from my Spokanite buddy that GBJ is back and playing full-speed with the team.

    Great news.

He watched a scrimmage about a week and half ago in the old Kennel building.

    The weary news?

Mentioned GBJ, in particular, didn't look nor move very well with or without the ball. Keep in mind, this was just a friendly scrimmage and nearly 2 wks ago.

Well, he didn't say he looked 'slow', more to the fact the younger guys (I presume Silas, Josh, McClellan, et al) were literally running circles around and past him. Gary Bell couldn't keep the pace or make moves he's used to seeing.

Personally, I attribute this to conditioning, or lack thereof, rather than ability.

While I know GBJ will work hard to get in "game shape", this elicited mild concern about his nagging knee issue and off-season surgery. One can only play injured and/or play through injury so long, before it inevitably hinders performance.

I am confident he will bounce back this season, but from the sound of it, may take some time. GBJ will be our starting SG yet one can't help but notice Few's unabashed comment surrounding our newcomers.

IF Gary Bell isn't ready to go full-speed at the highest level to start this season, I wonder how Coach Few will handle the incoming talent vs the experienced Senior?

I just hope GBJ returns to form and is able to play healthy and effectively.

Thanks GZ. I certainly hope so.

Still a few weeks 'til the season begins, so he should be full-strength and conditioned by then.

He never should have been asked to play small forward.

Will most definitely return to his natural position this season.

Also, Coach Few has said repeatedly he plans to rest him [and Pangos] more this year as well. In practices and games.

GBJ has earned his starting nod, yet our depth yields many options at SG and Coach Few adores both Silas and Jenks. Will be interesting at every position, not just Gary's.

What's the point and connection? Are you suggesting by playing off position that he got injured? Don't see that...

If he has any inclination of a nagging injury, rather than reinjure himself I would vote for a red shirt year. He has great talent but needs to be healthy to showcase his best play, which will affect his basketball future and earnings plus get a masters degree which is worthwhile in and of itself.

That might mess up my over/under bet with Zags67. I have Pangos with 32+ mpg this season.

    Silly me.

I thought the way to butcher his name was "Fiddy".

    From the Urban Dictionary:
    Fitty Cent
How "hood" people say fifty cents.

Curtis James Jackson III (born July 6, 1975), better known by his stage name 50 Cent (pronounced "fitty cent"), is an American rapper, entrepreneur, investor, record producer, and actor.
