    Lightbulb Crazy Hunch

I think Creighton and West Virginia will be on Gonzaga's side of the bracket come March. . .the Selection Committee will put the blue Jays in there because they like having "little" schools with good programs knock each other off in the Sweet 16 and the Mountaineers will be there as one of those "if GU's that good, let them prove it against a Power 5 conference school. . ." deals.

Seems like that happens to the Zags in years when they have a particularly strong squad. I suppose I could sift through my bracket binder and see if the history backs that notion up but it's late, I have been up since 3:30am.

Anyway, I thought I would put this hunch somewhere I could find it come March 12, 2017, at 3:00pm

First game I have missed in nearly three years and we have two injuries. It's my fault

Just booked my flight to Atlanta for Sunday, 4/2. Returning Tuesday 4/4.

4/3/2017 could prove to be one helluva day: Attending the Masters that day, watch the Zags play in the national final that night. . .

If you're going to day dream, you might as well dream big.

February 11th was my late wife's birthday. She would have turned 52 this year. Weeks ago, my daughter and I decided we would have a quiet dinner out to remember her, joined by friends. Our plan: Early dinner at 5:00, adjourn to my place to watch the St. Mary's game at 7:00. Well, ESPN changed the start time on us but our dinner plans need to stay the same.

So tomorrow's festivities in my case will be via DVR, at least 90 minutes behind the rest of you. . .will do the whole "media blackout" thing in an attempt to avoid knowing the outcome prior to viewing.

I hope the dinner is filled with smiles and laughter and a minimal amount of tears my friend.

Took tomorrow off so I could take stock of things a year later.

Emotions are less raw, the memories are mostly good ones, the quiet of the house is less overwhelming.

Crossing the threshold from porch to entryway is a small test of resolve at the end of the commute from work to home. The dog greets me with enthusiasm, she gets hugs, a treat, and then scurries off to her favorite spot to gnaw.
If the weather is cooperating, as it is this week, I head out to the back deck and turn on the waterfall. The birds in the feeders scatter when the sound of the water hitting the pond echoes off the granite walls.

It has been a difficult year. But you knew that.

    Cheers, man.

A drink by the waterfall sounds pretty nice.

Since 2000, Xavier has reached 7 Sweet 16's and three Elite 8's; Gonzaga has reached 7 Sweet 16's and 2 Elite 8's in the same stretch.

If, before the November election, you were given the following deal:

Gonzaga can reach it's first Final Four but it will be during a Trump administration

Would you have taken that deal ??

(That's the kind of hypothetical my dear Mrs. used to like to throw at me during our Friday after-work "strategy sessions." )

I would need 4 straight national championships and an absolute reign of dominance guaranteed to consider that trade off.

Do the Zags have to meet the Orange Haired One if they win the NT?

Will he be allowed visitors that aren't family? Do they have to be put on a list first?

I remember Cubs fans saying similar things heading in to the election.

May you live in interesting times.

I wouldn't take that deal either. The guy offering it reeked of sulfur and brimstone
