Reno, I have been thinking about you and your family a lot. I hope you are doing ok which I know is a naive thing to say when you lose someone so close. I'm praying for you and your family.

And even that is a loose suggestion.

Today I was standing in line at a truck stop ( the really nice ones are now known as 'travel centers' ) cashier counter, waiting to pay for a soft drink. This travel center is in the town I work in, 35 miles east of Reno, a straight shot on the Interstate that connects Reno to SLC. I usually get my gas at this joint. It's near the on-ramp, the staff are friendly, gas is cheaper by twenty cents a gallon compared to Reno/Sparks, and it's become something of a habit to top off the tank there before heading home to Casa Reno.

Near the counter is one of those small bins filled with discount DVD's, the type you see in supermarkets and Wally Worlds, one you might dig through when you're bored on the chance you'll see a title you like for next to nothing, like the Criterion Collection's edition of Orson Welles' "The Magnificent Ambersons" or maybe a cult favorite like "Last Man Standing," the Bruce Willis vehicle that features two Chicago mobs playing shoot 'em up in a Dusty Western town.

Beneath the DVD bin was a small shelf holding music CD's, 4 titles wide. Usually in a travel center like this, you might see the Best of Randy Travis, The Judds, Hank Williams, Jr, and Garth Brooks' first album. I don't roll that direction but hey, God Bless ya' if you do. But the first Jewel Case caught my eye for unmistakable artwork so I bent over to see if my weary eyes were tellin' lies. They were not.

For the low-low price of $4.99 each, you could have picked up:

The Sex Pistols " Nevermind the Bollocks;" Billy Joel's "52nd Street;" Bo Diddley's "Road Runner;" and lastly, The Doors' "Soft Parade."

Tomorrow morning I'm going back for that Bo Diddley disc.

    That's awesome.

Still, I wonder... Have the SPs become the bollocks?

I have to re-learn what it's like to cook for one. I suppose I can do what I've done for the last twenty five years and take the leftovers to work for lunch. Fast food prices are crazy and that junk isn't good for me anyway. . .

Cooking is a great therapy, I find.

The good news is that there are more resources available than ever. Hit Google with an ingredient or idea and -bam- a list of great recipes appear.

Awesome. I don't know if you write but you could always get a notebook and write poems or diary entries. Long walks of exercise also help.

There is a toad or frog in the waterfall pond. It is happy, making amphibian tones that are almost charming. We'll see how long I put up with this interloper.. .

I never left, GPGU. . .just took a hiatus for a while. I do have to talk to somebody in a BMW who stole my Foo parking spot, however. The nerve.

If it was my waterfall pond the interloper would already be gone. The toad/frog may bring his friends over for a party.
You can't make a half sandwich. If it's not half of a whole sandwich, it's just a small sandwich.

Lisa had acquired a dog on February 28th which we placed with a local service dog trainer the following day for a two-week “boot camp.” He would have joined our family on or about March 14th. Bob and Lisa were bound for adventure via her powered wheelchair. . .When she passed, I asked the trainer if she could find a person who could benefit from Bob’s training. Yesterday I received this response to my request for an update

Yes! We had a meet and greet with the young man in a wheelchair about a week ago. His story is awesome. He was 18, driving too fast under the influence of drink, crashed into a tree at 85 miles an hour. He said he was lucky , it didn't kill him or his friend. But he is paralyzed from the waist down plus damage to his left side.

He is attending the university to be a doctor on spinal injuries. At first when he called he wanted a lab. I listened explained to him, costs time etc and he was quiet, a bit discouraged I think.....then I told him about Bob....and Bob’s story, He and his Mom came down to meet Bob. He fell in love . And Bob liked him.

So now we start the process of their bonding and training together. It will be a weekly thing. Would you like to meet him ?

I’ve asked to meet the young man. If I can snag a photo of him & Bob, I’ll pass it along.
