    Default The Height Sham

I've always found a player or coach fudging on the players height a pet peeve.
I think this Pinocchio effect is true for several of the Zag players.

Here is an interesting ESPN article discussing players height

Just be glad we don't have to attend a combine for "measurements".

It always cracked me up 2 seasons ago when we would hear Few say "Karno is a 'legitimate seven footer.'"

Which made me almost expect the next line to be ". . . unlike Kelly over here who is a little over 6'10"

    But that never happened.

Hey, I was listed at 5'11 in frosh basketball - now says that on my D.L. and for which I could be charged for perjury.

1972 HS Sr 6'3" football, month later 6'4" for basketball.
    College football 6'3"
Try-out 6'1 3/4"....no one measured my arm length or hand size, not that it would have helped.

Same as it ever was. Honestly height is fairly meaningless. Wing span is much more important. Vertical leap and other athletic attributes are a big factor. And then it just plain comes down to whether the dude can play ball or not. Draftniks obsess over measurables but I think it's fairly overrated.

This applied in track and field as well. When entering you into meets, coaches put in a time that was faster than you had ever ran, but within the plausible limits of your physiology.

Now, I am actually interested in Stocks' true height. I stood next to him and I'm a legit 6'3'' and absolutely towered over him. Is he even fudged at 5'10/11''?

It would be interesting to take the team rankings and post the average height or wing span. I wonder how it would correlate, especially at year end where its more relevant.

I lied on my drivers license expecting to grow another inch. That inch never came

In high school I was taller than David by at least an inch and the tallest I've ever measured is 5'8 and 3/4". At that height I was gratuitously listed as 5'11" while some of my football teammates who were slightly shorter than me were 6'1" or 6'2"

Hahaha I remember in last years NBA draft, a couple GMs were saying that they couldn't believe that Kelly could shoot as well as he could given that he was a legit 6'11". Good stuff.

Just had to look up what the NBA combine actually measured Kelly at. This probably won't align with the headers at all, but height w/o shoes is 6' 10.75", 7 foot even with shoes.

Name Height w/o shoes Height with shoes Weight Wingspan Standing reach Body fat Hand length Hand width
    Olynyk, Kelly 6' 10.75'' 7' 0'' 234 6' 9.75'' 9' 0'' 6.65 8.5 10

I'm a legit 6'4" without shoes. I have a friend who I'm probably 2 inches taller then, but when's he's asked how tall he is he replies with 6'4".

I think most guys want to be taller than they are.

I grew to 6' 0" on the dot when I was in HS... been there ever since. I suspect gravity will start catching up with me eventually. My dad was 6'2" when I was growing up. He is in in 70's now and we see about eye to eye.

For every patient I have to get their height and weight. If I had a quarter for every time I heard "well, I used to be....." in reference to height, lol
