Default Unsubstantiated Rumor Alert - 2014 Schedule

My dad says he saw UCLA Mens team in airport this past weekend, struck up a conversation w/ an "assistant coach" who said they are playing Zags in L.A. next year. Anyone heard anything about this?

Cool The Weeners of Westwood? Really?

Preseason tourney? On a similar note, wouldn't it be awesome for the Zags to play Indiana?????

I hope we get to play UCLA in some sort of non-conference schedule next season. That would be sweet. Don't be writing off the NIT Season Tipoff either. That tournament is very underrated too. St. John's, Minnesota are very underrated, and I think Georgia is on the rise too. That's going to be a tournament we have to do well in too, but I think we can. Sneaky good tourney.

Reminds me of a Gonzaga game I attended at Pauley Pavilion back in 1999.

The Zags held the Bruins to their lowest point total ever at Pauley Pavilion in a 59-43 victory.

I would love for this game to happen with one caveat. Having to hear and watch….(ESPN announcer),"the last time these two teams met"……(cut to video)…….

If it was still the Pac-10 (minus Utah and Colorado), I'd be excited that a conference vs. conference tourney was starting. sigh.

    Go Zags!!!!
Despite the beat down by the Zags (or because of it) we never got a return game from the Bruins. If they are not willing to schedule a true home and home series - forget them!!

Maybe it was the old home & home w/ 15 yrs in between the initial & return game?

Don't know if it's true or not, but it must have been the UCLA team there b/c he was in Seattle & they played U-Dub/WSU this past wkend.

Was hoping someone in the know could (dis)confirm the rumor. I would love to get a strong non-conf schedule back for next year, I think it would be a good year for it.

As was mentioned above -- the Zags will be in the NIT and UCLA will be in the Battle 4 Atlantis-- so Nov 17/18 or 18/19 and Nov 26/28 will be already taken.

Dec 13th (guestimate for date) will be Battle in Seattle against TBD

Dec 27th (guestimate) will be the start of the WCC season

We have Arizona already and if we add in UCLA -- we have a couple of options if we are looking at Saturday games to highlight the matchup -- Dec 6th and Dec 20 are open.

Somewhere we add in Washington State also-- would they be a good one for the Battle in Seattle?-- UW folks might not appreciate the press.

It sounds like we may have some good competition -- but most of the games will be on the road/neutral courts.

Nah, I would play them at Pauley. Anytime, anywhere. I wanna play good competition. I could care less if we play at home. Just give me good non-con.

WSU will have tough matchup Tramaine Isabell at point next year.

Probably a new coach at WSU as well...they still lack in overall talent though. Lacy is legit and will be a senior. Isabell had a great year this year in HS. However, they have nothing inside after losing Shelton so I think we will be a horrible matchup for them. I would love to play UCLA in the OOC, great chance for a "big win" and won't kill us if we were to lose, just like the Arizona game will be.

I could see a new Coach wanting to beg off for a few years while putting in own system/getting own recruits but since it's their best attended home game I'm sure Moos would tell him to take his lumps.

    P.S.
If (when) Bone is fired, does Isabell stick around?

    agreed

by its very nature, gonzaga will have to concede equality on the home/away thing if it wants to put together an impressive schedule each year. just the way it is.

Wazzou already plays an OOC game in Seattle each year, I really doubt they would want to share the spotlight with the Zags for a game at Key Arena.

Plus they are willing to come and play in the MAC, so don't move a good home game out.

I think Isabell will stick for at least one year because he'd have to sit out a year as he was an early signee. From what I hear, if they make a change it will be an experienced head coach so that should help with the transition.

Players are often released from letters when there's a coaching change- Alford from New Mex, UNM coach's son from SMC etc. Up to WSU if they want to hardline it on Isabell if they hire another Bennett-style coach, but releases in such situations are common.

He's improved massively since last year and would be in demand. Looked like a young Aaron Brooks in the tourney; puts on a show but doesn't force things like he did a bit last year.

Well, I'd say if your dad was told, then it's probably true. The only thing I'd add is, assistant coaches sometimes don't really know what's up. Often times a game is "in the works," and word gets out, but that game falls through for one reason or another, and an assistant might not truly know if it's "a done deal" or not. Depends, too, how high up the pecking order that assistant is.

I might have to watch this one with the audio off. The only thing worse would be Craig Ehlo and Heister narrating books on tape.

    Go Zags!!!!
I was at that game also. God, was it sweet.

Most Zag fans were up in the nose bleeders, but my buddy & I found some scalper tickets and were sitting in really good seats among all the Bruin faithful. By about the 8 minute mark we practically had the section to ourselves.
