GU vs Dayton Stats = The Good and Bad

    The Good:
-Pangos, 39 min, 6-14, 13-14 from line....he played hard all game long and was sole reason we had chance at the end.
-Dower, 32 min, 8-10, nice to help on the O with 18 pts, 2 steals and 7 rebounds
-Bell shot well, just not enough. 5-7 from the field, 29 min, 12 pts total, 4 rebounds
    -Coleman 3-7 in 9 minutes, 7 pts, 1 rebound
    -Stockton, 32 min, 7 assists, 2 steals
    -Karno 26 min, 3-4, 7 pts, 6 rebounds, 2 blocks
    -Only 10 total team turnovers
-Excellent FT shooting! 88%-- Pangos 13-14, Stockton 6-6

    The Bad and The Ugly
-26.3% from 3pt, 5-19 (BobZag kinda called this "what if" situation)
-Only 5 offensive boards all game
-Karno only 6 rebounds (Barham had 4 in 19 min)
-Stockton 0-5 from the field in 32 min
    -Barham 0-4, 4 rebounds in 19 min

    GU - 48.1% FGM, 42.9% 3GM
    Dayton - 45.8% FGM, 26.3% 3GM

I'm pretty sure you got Karno and Pangos' minutes mixed up. ESPN says Karno had 26 and Kevin had 39.

Good-- too late for anyone to take notice on east coast.

Good - Pangos and the bigs in the first half.

Bad - Not much offense from the rest of the team. Rebounding as a team.

Ugly - The same terrible 3 point D we always see.

The Start of the Grinding has begun
it is probably good for all of us, fans, players, coaches ...
              except
              the two bads,
              we lost a game, and
in the long run it hurts our recruiting if we are not perceived as an elite, or near-elite team

Haha thanks. I know you meant the media but when I woke up this morning and saw the final score, I can't say I was surprised. I thought Dayton would present a tough matchup and I knew the Flyers would be looking at this as a good opportunity for a signature win.

If I could add more bad (as if there wasn't enough), it would be the lost opportunity to play some better RPI squads (Baylor, potentially Syracuse).

Dayton scored 1.18 points per possession, according to the KenPom box score. That just can't happen. Flyers also collected 43 percent of the rebounds when the missed. So, when Dayton missed a shot, they retained possession nearly half the time.

The problem is, I'm not sure these issues are fixable.

The bad: When was the last time the Zags had 3 players foul out in regulation? That's probably the only game all season where Dower and Karnowski both foul out, I hope.

The good: It's good to be tested and pushed early in the season, that's how teams learn and grow.
It's not the size of the Bulldog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the Bulldog!

                    GO ZAGS!!!

The BAD---letting a nice 16 point lead disappear before the half.

                            From a superstitious angle:

Zags were doomed from the point they made a 3 in that game...

That was the 666th straight game that Gonzaga has made a 3pt field goal
