Guy is playing on the Ivory Coast National Team in the FIBA Africa Championship. They played Algeria this morning and came away with the win, 64-47. Guy had 5 points and 2 rebounds in 23 minutes.

    Upcoming games:

    Tournament story from FIBA:
ABIDJAN (AfroBasket/FIBA Basketball World Cup) - The number of African players plying their trade in Europe and the USA has increased astonishingly in the past few years and a great number of them will show what they can do for their national teams at AfroBasket 2013, a qualifying tournament for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain.

The 16-team tournament, divided in four groups, tips off on Tuesday in Cote d'Ivoire's capital city of Abidjan.

Players come from the most prestigious basketball leagues in the world including the NBA, Spain's ACB, France's Ligue National de Basket, the Greek League, China's CBA and a lot more bring their USA college experience.

Since the FIBA Basketball World Cup increased the numbers of teams from 16 to 24 in 2006, Africa gained one more place and the top three African teams secure direct qualification to the event.

Intriguingly, the number of potential world cup contenders has doubled with Tunisia, Senegal, Nigeria, Angola, Cameroon and Cote d'Ivoire on the frontlines.

In Group A, hosts Cote d'Ivoire will take on Egypt, Senegal and Algeria.

Defending champions Tunisia are in Group B alongside AfroBasket debutants Burkina Faso, Rwanda and Morocco.

Angola are in Group C alongside Mozambique, Central African Republic and Cape Verde.

In Group D, Nigeria will square off against Cameroon, Mali and Republic of Congo.

Brutal finish to the tournament for Ivory Coast. After winning their first 5 games, they only needed to win 1 of their last 2 to finish in the Top 3, which would've guaranteed them a spot in the 2014 World Championship. They dropped both, including today's 57-56 loss to Senegal. Up 3 with 15 seconds left, Ivory Coast gave up a 4-point play on Senegal's last possession.

After averaging 20 minutes per in the first 5 games, Guy played only 15 minutes total in the last 2. He ended up averaging 4.7 points and 2.6 rebounds in the tournament.

    Here's a FIBA story about Guy: http://www.fiba.basketball/afrobaske...ket-2021-crown

Guy Edi insists Cote d'Ivoire must finish strong to remain in contention for AfroBasket 2021 crown

PARIS (France) - Cote d'Ivoire may not resume their FIBA AfroBasket 2021 Qualifiers campaign until February but team captain Guy Edi says the time to commence preparation is now.

The 31-year-old returned to the 'Elephants' during the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 African Qualifiers in early 2018 after sitting out the AfroBasket 2015.

With two AfroBasket titles (1981 and 1985) under their belts, Edi is confident that Cote d'Ivoire can return to the podium at next year's African Championship, and therefore Qualifiers in February must see the players at their very best.

Edi told FIBA.basketball that he feels honoured to have led his country as captain of the national team at last year's FIBA Basketball World Cup in China and admits that his team learnt valuable lessons that would help them in future competitions.

Cote d'Ivoire currently lead Group A thanks to three wins in as many games.

In spite of the confidence that Edi exudes, he admits that his team will not be favourites and as such, they would take it one game at a time.

"Our target at the Qualifiers is to take care of business, get better and advance. Cameroon is a very talented team but we were better on their court and this time around they would come back stronger to prove a point. Same would be the case with Guinea and Equatorial Guinea," he stated.

While the former Gonzaga University standout hopes for FIBA to take all precautionary measures to make the venue convenient and safe in view of the coronavirus pandemic, he believes players would be ready to participate and notes that he wants to finish his career on a high.
