    Marco Gonzales Takes Home ABCA All-West Region Honors

    SPOKANE, Wash. (June 21, 2013) – Former Gonzaga University baseball player Marco Gonzales earned American Baseball Coaches Association All-West Region second team honors, announced the organization Friday.

    The left-handed pitcher was recognized for his superior two-way performances as a Bulldog. Sharing the West Coast Conference Player of the Year accolades, Gonzales went 7-3 on the mound with a 2.80 ERA in 106 innings. At the dish Gonzales led the Zags with a .313 batting average, two home runs and 26 RBI.

    The Fort Collins, Colo., native was the first round selection, No. 19 overall, of the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

    Gonzales has also recent garnered second-team All-American honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, Baseball America and Perfect Game.

    The southpaw remains one of three finalists for College Baseball’s Hall of Fame John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year award. The winner will be announced June 29 in Lubbock, Texas.

    The 299 Division I schools are divided into eight regions with the West Region encompassing 38 schools. After nominations, the coaches vote on the first and second team honors.
