I guy I work with from Idaho always says Gonzoga.

When I correct him he says that because the school is named after St. Gonzaga and that his name is pronounced more like gone - zog - a (Italian) that everyone in Spokane is pronouncing it wrong.

Of course, I know that all those who pronounce it incorrectly do it as a direct snub borne of jealousy.

We should feel pity for those poor jealous souls that don't have a team like the Zags.

He doesn't think the kids that pay $140K for an education are entitled to their own pronunciation?

I've run into that argument, as well. My response is to start talking about No-tra Domm.

I ran into this artical online.

    http://jsquarehumboldt.articlealley....ght-28724.html

Not really sure what to make of it, to me personally I feel people either are extremely lazy and refuse to try to get it right; or they are simply trying to disrespect Gonzaga in there own little personal ways. It's not like the Zags are new to the national scene and this hasn't been talked about with everyone in broadcasting.

Edit: by broadcasting I mean college hoops broadcasting.

No credibility in the above article when he refers to that Jesuit university in South Bend.

If CBS had any imagination, which it doesn't, it would put together a cute little piece along these lines..Don't count on it. Wouldn't want to steal time from Zombie Gumbel.
