Default Ignore list question for techies

I haven't used this much, but have recently found it necessary due to the presence of a relatively new poster. The problem is this: that poster's verbal droppings are hidden, but when posters quote him/her, his/her posts are printed in those posts, effectively neutralizing the ignore function.

So the question is this: how hard would it be to set up a system where if someone is on ignore, posts quoting that person are also ignored? Because it seems like the people you put on ignore are gonna be getting quoted a lot for the purpose of disputing their "opinions". Thanks.

Unless something changed in the past month, vBulletin (who codes the forums) doesn't have a feature that can do this.

I've wished for the same thing for a long time also, Maynard. Hang in there, though, and don't let the Goofies get you down. We need your insights here!

Maynard, I must be on tons of peoples ignore list. I respect your right, MGK, and this is just my opinion, but I have never met a person who didn't maybe upset me one day and then maybe inspire me the next.

IMO, if people want to make the board better or simply further the truth, then the best way to do that is to know what is being said. This is why I respect MDABE80 for NOT ignoring the old scout board and actually taking it on himself. He cares enough about our reputation that he couldn't ignore posts that were damaging or false. That is not to say he doesn't ignore people here.

When I see the word ignore, I tend to think of ignorance, and I don't want to be there. I don't have anyone ignored. But I can understand why some people would. It is easier and makes it more comfortable.

Great post OZN, I agree. I want to be able to read everyone's opinion, and make a decision to reply or not myself. Only reading what you like won't help you in life, and besides... Who would want to miss all this craziness?!

This is weird... a thread with no posts in it. How does that happen?
What are you doing, Adam? Do you even know how many people go blind from pizza shrapnel?

Thanks Zag79, IMO the truly bad or trolling posters don't last long anyway. The mods and admins do a good job to make the real problems just "go away". But if we can't see the real harmful stuff and we decide to ignore it, maybe the mods miss it and it causes real harm.

It is better to hit the "report" button than the "ignore" button. But I respect anyone's choice to make the board more pleasant for themselves. It is one thing people can control.

Start typing in a name and it'll popup with options.

To remove someone, uncheck the box by their name and save changes.

Looks like someone went through the trouble of making one a year or two ago. I think our vbulletin version is 3.8.7 .... No sure it works with versions prior to 4.

Ah, yes, I was relying on info from an admin of another vBulletin forum, which does use v3.87. He said it was a no-go for his site.

Even there it looks like they are having problems with it differentiating between ignored poster quotes and other quotes.
