Whether we like it or not, it looks like the WCC does, indeed, like them. And they the only ones with a vote.

Is this a decision based on the other sports, rather than basketball.

Does Pacific have competitive soccer teams. Baseball teams. Volleyball, golf, etc?

They answer is yes. They are competitive in other sports. I'm very biased because I live about 35 miles from UoP and I will be buying basketball season tickets to go watch them in the WCC and against GU. They will get better in basketball, and they are good in other sports like baseball, soccer and volleyball. Anyway I am very much in the minority here. Welcome Pacific.

This chick has a nice big arena and is geographically convenient. Those are things the other contenders simply didn't have.

Isn't Pacific the school that gave a slap on the wrist to the 3 players who raped a member of their school's women's team a few years ago? I'm 99% sure it is. One of them was a Seattle area player, Stephon (sp?) Johnson, who transferred to Idaho. I think at least one of the others was allowed to play at Pacific after that, following a brief suspension. They got off in the legal system (what a shock) but there was pretty compelling evidence.

Strange move for a conference that is made up of schools that try to claim the high moral ground, basketball reasons aside.

we need to start a pool on when/if tzf has to get a tattoo...and we should also get to decide what that tattoo looks like.

They look like they have their entire BB team returning and should be able to improve on the 11-19 season next year......hopefully.

I would imagine that BYU and San Diego will be travel partners. It will cut down on air travel. Teams would make two trips to the Bay Area during conference season. Maybe Pacific and St. Mary's on one trip, then Santa Clara and USF on other trip. Or maybe Pacific and Santa Clara on one trip, then St. Mary's and USF on the other trip. Just need a bus to get between the two schools.

Pacific over the past 13 years...
    - 3 NCAA Tourneys
    - 1 NIT
    - Has the most wins in league at 134-78 (.632)

Michael Olowokandi was the #1 Pick in the 1998 NBA draft

Pacific also a number of other players playing professionally overseas

This year they had a lot of Sophs and Juniors, and losing only one player to graduation, although he was a league first teamer.

Gonzaga is 2-1 all time against Pacific.
    - W 85-83 (1959)
    - W 51-48 (1975)
    - L 70-60 (1976)

They've had 8 All-Americans. The last in 2005-2006, Christian Maraker (Honorable Mention). Three since 2000.

In 2010-2011, the average overall attendance was 2343.

    Default Go to 2 divisions

Some thought needs to be given to spiltting the WCC into 2 divisions for basketball. Two 5 team divisions:

    North:
    GU
    BYU
    PU
    U of P
alternate one of the Bay area schools

    South:
    The Cal schools

Play everybody in your division home and away, play everybody in the other division once, alternating home years. That would make for 11 league games plus the tornament. More open dates for better RPI non league games.

If you've played D-1 basketball, and have a pulse, you can find work overseas.

    Default Pacific

    Interesting news.

Was anything done on revenue sharing? If Pacific gets an equal share of the WCC television and NCAA appearance fees they just made a hell of a bargain. I can see why Portland and the smaller CA schools with little or no NCAA BB aspirations would like to save 10 - 15% on their annual travel costs and that adding U of P may accomplish that objective, but the overall math is a mystery to me.

What is the name of the U of Pacific team? Welcome aboard I guess. I wish it had been Seattle U.

How do you say "I agree with you" in Turkish? Playing "overseas" - frequently for teams that promise much and deliver little in the way of compensation - is not necessarily a measure of BB skill.

To quote "Purple Pride" from a post over on Dons Central

Over the last five years here are the average RPI's of the 10-team WCC (sans GU/SMC/BYU)

    POR - 168
    PAC - 179
    USF - 198
    USD - 206
    SCU - 215
    LMU - 238
    PEP - 261

SMU does not play in the WCC....southern methodist university is not in moraga...

SMC does, and their non-conf sos was 95 last year.

pacific's non-conf sos was 254...non-conf rpi of 303 (their overall rpi was buoyed by the presence of lbsu atop their conference.

their real record was 9-19. they had two wins against non-D1 opponents last year.

they were 1-12 vs rpi top 150 schools (beat utah state rpi 131 by 8 on dec 3rd, in stockton)

they were 8-7 vs rpi sub 150.
