    Default Matt today

Here's the USA schedule (Pacific times):

    Today 9am vs Mali
    July 13 11:30am vs China
    July 14 9am vs Serbia

The next round of games would be on the 16th, 17th, & 18th.

The quarters, semis, and championship are on the 20th, 21st, & 22nd. Looks like these are the games where webcasts will be available (i think the "U21" in that headline is a typo....i don't believe there are any U21's this year).

But for now, if you want to follow, live stats should be running at the U19 home page. Rotating scoreboard on the left side (might have to scroll down a tad and wait a few seconds).

    Default Team Canada Question

Thanks for the U19 homepage link BBskorer. Having parlayed that info into 15 minutes of internet surfing/procrastinating I'm now wondering why we don't see Sacre playing for Team Canada. Is he too old or perhaps wasn't invited to try out or simply didn't make the team.....anyone know...or should I spend 15 more minutes surfing up my own answer? I prefer the group effort approach
On a side note, anyone else in midseason form suddenly when it comes to logging onto this site and keeping abreast of any and all Zag hoops scoops? I usually don't log on much in the offseason, just skim the site once a week or so but have been on here multiple times per day this week....must be the recruiting bug.

    Flex, good question.

I believe it was CDC who called it a few weeks back. Rob is definitely eligible for U19, but he's got more important things to get ready for....

    Default College freshmen

Sacre, like most college freshmen basketball players, is probably wanting to use this time to get started early on his school work (so he can take a lighter load during the basketball season), and just get adjusted to college life in a new country. He also needs to learn the offense. Most importantly, he needs more coaching than any of the newcomers - something he would not get thru participating at FIBA. I wouldn't have participated if I were him either. It's big life adjustment being a freshman in college.

I could see him participating in the future.

    Real solid line for Matt:

    13 pts (5-10 FG's, 2-2 FT's)
    5 rbs (incl. a game-high 4 offensive)
    2 helpers
    1 steal
all in 25 min, most on the team

    Box

But with all due respect to DeAndre Jordan, my player of the game has to be Waly Coulibaly. Not because he was game high scorer. No, he just has the coolest name.

    Wal-yyyyyyyyyyy Couibal-yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy ..........

    .........from Mal-iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

    uh, sorry.

Anyway, great job Matt. Keep it going!!

took 2 pts away from Matt, took 2 away from DeAndre Jordan, and gave all 4 to Michael Beasley.

...please don't tell me they took away the dunk!?!?!?!

No, that's not a fistfull of uni.....it's a harmless hand-check! Where's Erroll Knight? We need that guy to teach Matt to body-up first, then go for the jersey.

lol. And Matt now looks fit enough and strong enough to do it Errol's way.

Looks like he just might actually be a puney wimp.

Regardless, Matt is a big, strong dude and I hope to see him posting up a few of those puney wimps this year. Double teams that may result in a Heytvelt dunk given Matt's passing ability.

That vision has been in my mind too. Surrounded by some 3 point threats like Josh .404, Downs .431, Pendo .486, and Pargo .373.

I would like that for a must score end of game shot. Make Matt the center forcing the other teams big to gaurd a faster player outside with a lot of screens.

Looks like he's missing a dunk here, I believe he can throw it down , but still haven't seen him throw one down..

also, is it me or does Deon Thompson look to be in much better shape (leaner, stronger) based on those pics than when we saw him?
