So Long and Thanks for All the Fish - A Perfect Circle
Find myself listening to this once a week. Jesus, I'd like to think it's not even controversial anymore. I'd teach it in the public schools at this point.
Posted it a dozen times, evidently not enough:
Don't wanna be an American idiot
Don't want a nation under the new mania
And can you hear the sound of hysteria?
The subliminal mind #### America
Welcome to a new kind of tension
All across the alienation
Where everything isn't meant to be okay
Television dreams of tomorrow
We're not the ones who're meant to follow
For that's enough to argue
Well maybe I'm the ###got America
I'm not a part of a redneck agenda
Now everybody do the propaganda
And sing along to the age of paranoia
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.
Mark Twain.
In 9th grade history class we watched a documentary on the Vietnam War with all the songs of the era interspersed. Our history teacher told us not to just watch the documentary but to listen to the music and whoever was able to write down the most correct song titles (and the group who played it) would get extra credit. He was one of very few teachers I had (pre-college) who understood the importance of pop culture when studying history. Btw, I got the extra credit.
