Default Did Bryant Deserve Player of the Year in the WCC

Let's put it to a vote.

His statistics from the season can be viewed here:

    http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/players/47601

You'll see he averaged a double double on the season, including in last nights loss where he got 13 and 10.

Mills would have been POY if he didn't get hurt.

My personal opinion, the guy was statistically superior to all the other folks being considered and he totally deserved the award.

I predicted Big John would win it and so I voted Yes.

I tire of various talking heads on tv discussing what they feel the differences are between "most valueable" and "best" or whatever.

I just know that sports in general have a precedent for awarding players that play on winning teams. Yeah, there is occasional blips, ie A-Rod winning one in one of his admitted roid years in Texas, but they are a rarity.

Bryant is a good player, but the WCC isnt a great conference. If your team only goes 8-8 in it you shouldnt be awarded the best player. If I had been given the option to swap Bryant and Heytvelt before the WCC tourney, I wouldnt even have considered it.

Yes, because Mills got hurt. And there were too many good GU players, so they canceled each other out (all good stats across the board, but not great).

Yes. The guy was the leading rebounder in the country and also had the most 20/20 games of anyone in the country. You have to recognize that. What SCU was or wasn't has no bearing on what was a huge season for Bryant pesonally IMO. I tend to disagree with POY awards being always given to a player on the best team. It should be an individual award IMO.

It's a regular season award. Yes, he deserved to be POY.

    To have Bryant or Josh?
I shudder to think of a true 5, a post up guy, likes back to the basket, can throw back out well to team-mates.
Sentimentally, I would go with Josh,
but realistically I think we would have lost 3 not 5 games if he was our Center

    Default Josh vs Bryant

Bryant would not be a good fit in the Zag system, since he doesn't run the floor well at all. At the pace of the Zag offense, he could only play about 15 minutes a game, the rest of the time he would be sucking wind. Awfully hard to be this mythical "back to basket 5" everyone so covets when you can't run the floor.

Trust me, Josh will be so missed when he is gone.

Uber voted who cares. Uber will take the wins, let Bryant have the POY award.

Agreed. Bryant will be at home fondling his POY trophy while watching the Zags in the NCAAs on TV.

There is some legitimacy to the argument that Bouldin or Heytvelt were as deserving. But I don't by the argument that Bryant wasn't deserving. He was a beast, plain and simple.
