Downs. On a very sloppy night, he kept us in it. We were fortunate to have played OSU instead of Maryland in the first round. I'm sure we'll play much better tomorrow--and we'll have more GUnits to pick from besides Micah and Ira.

    Default Downs

Despite IRA's lift, Downs really has the only complete performance.

Default the guy who flipped this game, took charge, took over

and led us, was Matt Bouldin. Until he took over, we were slouching our way, the way a rudderless ship makes port, or doesn't. But he grabbed the helm, directed the recovery, set our ship aright, and steered us home.

Sort of ugly game, overall, but who cares ? An ugly win, but in the end, a win nonetheless and just the same. I'll take it. every time.

Kudos to OSU, they hustled throughout and outhustled us during most of the first half.

But they died by the trey, the same way they were hoping to win. It's a high stakes, high pressure tactic. And it didn't work in the end.

    Go Zags !

Micah! Let's see how long he remains under the radar.

    Matt Bouldin

He seemed to be the steady hand, making lots happen in defense, and kept shooting through his cold start. When driving toward the bucket, there are only two zags who seem to be looking to pass while also driving, consistently. Bouldin, and Meech. Most of the other players when they start driving, seem to lose track of the rest of the team, and get a one track mind, to blow through the opposition that is guarding them. This telegraphs to the defense.

It was close, though, for Micah, and Josh and Jeremy's second half were also terrific.

Ira showed why coach and staff have confidence in him.

Matt came to play down the stretch.

Micah's numbers say it all, 13 boards, Wow!

Micah Downs is the G-Unit of the game.

    Just my opinion.

    Go!! Zags!!!

    Bouldin,
Great defense entire game. Scored on the drive and from the perimeter bringing the consistent offence straight through from last year!

Downs, great game. His seems to be our only real shooter/slasher on this team. He helps draw defenders when he gets his defender in the air and drives

Micah had the numbers, but Ira had the intangibles. Gotta say Ira Brown for this one.

Matt hit the big shots when we needed them the most.

    He was clutch.

    Default Micah & Matt

They led the 11-0 run that finally allowed GU to open up a working margin.

Downs. 17 and 12 are good numbers.

He looks like he's been in the weight room. His arms are noticeably bigger.

    Default Downs

Downs -- hands down -- might be the one who takes "the shot" when we need it. More than his shooting, his rebounding saved us -- more rebounds than Josh, Austin, Will and Big Rob combined. Hit his free throws (he was 5 for 6...though Rob hit his FTs, the aforementioned foursome, plus Ira! -- all who should be our paint presence -- combined 2 of 8 from the stripe). Micah was our inside presence when we needed it (offensively and defensively).

    Other kudos:

Pargo -- he was the enabler...many of Downs points followed an on-target Pargo feed. Jeremy was also one of two (the other being Bouldin) who could consistently create his own shot last night when we needed it (but he would normally hit it when he created it). And he also had the toughest cover last night (in Eaton) when we were in M2M.

Ira! -- super night...what made it special -- his performance down the stretch was what we hoped for, but hadn't really expected. He will be our floor burns/hustle guy this year.

I'll go against the grain and give the award to Pargo. He played his best and smartest when the game was on the line.

A very strong honorable mention for Downs for playing so steady and of course Ira for the spark plug in the second half.
