One of the best parts of GU basketball is the scouting that our staff has on these players.

Each player we go after seems to blow up soon after but we are usually in there with our offers earlier than the rest of the "big name" programs.

We were in on Burton early, we were in on Anthony Marshall and Marshall Henderson pretty early. We have consistently been in early on these good recruits and when push comes to shove, many players look at who offered first and who has shown the most interest.

Hopefully this pays off with the likes of Burton and Marshall.

Yes, but hopefully they're not influenced by bigger conferences offering spots. Gonzaga is becoming more and more of a household name in college hoops but i feel that it is hard to compete when the likes of the pac 10 start competing with us

        Great point.

I think that is why there is a sort of sense of urgency to have a big year this year to keep this recruiting momentum going. The west is blowing up in basketball right now.

Not only is the Pac-10 rolling right along but the rest of the WCC is playing a good game of catch up with the Zags. USD and SMC are becoming formidable foes for Gonzaga and have a recruiting advantage in terms of location. Spokane is very nice, but its hard to lure kids away for the beaches of San Diego. And many top western talents are California kids.

We have the winning formula down though and our name recognition is as strong as ever. If we throw in a deep tourney run this year, who knows what could happen with recruiting.
