    Default Elias Says

    http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/news/story?id=2789190

Gonzaga won the West Coast Conference tournament on Monday for the fourth straight season. They are the only Division I team that has won its conference in each of the last four years. No other team has a chance to extend its streak to four this year.

Default Mercury News: No Fairy-Tale Ending

    http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercu...s/16841808.htm

    On Davey:
``He's been great for our profession and he's somebody I've looked up to,'' Few said. ``I don't agree with how they've handled their business down there.

``He should have been able to go out on his own terms. When you are winning games and not cheating and doing it right, that's what college basketball is all about. He's not a good coach. He's a great coach.''

    Tacoma (WA) News-Tribune

More than anybody, Derek Raivio took it personally.

His Gonzaga basketball team lost its best big man a month ago, seemed to teeter on the edge of disarray, and looked in serious danger of missing out on an NCAA tournament berth for the first time after eight consecutive trips.

Raivio wouldn’t have it. This was his last shot. After four years, this was finally his team.

Monday night, the senior guard, who still looks like a Cub Scout, scored 28 points while playing every minute of a 77-68 win over Santa Clara in the title game of the West Coast Conference tournament on the campus of the University of Portland.

Drained by exhaustion and residual effects of last week’s flu, Raivio repeatedly vomited into a sideline trash can during a late timeout before coming back on the floor and calmly netting a pair of clutch free throws.
    The Oregonian

The game was a bruising battle between two heavyweights. The tournament's top two seeds. The conference teams with the best offense (Gonzaga) and defense (Santa Clara). Each team had beaten the other on the road earlier in the season. On Monday, for the second night in a row, the Chiles Center was transformed into Gonzaga's home away from home, with most of the 4,621 frenzied spectators cheering on the Bulldogs.

Zags took care of business, until Sunday at 3 pm, the rest is water cooler and cocktail conversation.
