Default OT- Kobe jumps over a car while Turiaf watches

I thought this was pretty funny. *Sigh* I miss Ronny.

SportsCenter just aired this and the anchors made it out to be real...

    Oh viral marketing.

    Default no way . .

my bet is he timed the jump and all, but the aston blew past him a few safe feet away while the camara lined up to make it look like he cleared it.

Not that he couldn't clear the car jumping. But why risk it ?

Maybe Ronny will give us the scoop next time he's in Spokane.

I think you figured it out, it sure looks that way when you watch the video a few times. Kobe also dates the video as March 31st, I believe, so it could have been an April Fools joke. Either way I'll bet the Lakers organization was not laughing real hard.

If this video were real, the rub would be that a $100 million athlete is putting that on the line by jumping over a car he can only clear by about 6 inches if he times it perfectly. Kobe Bryant's ability to jump over a car is not really the debatable aspect of this whole thing...

Yep. The reason you can't see their heads at the beginning of the shot is the low camera angle. If the car was a few feet behind Kobe (in relation to the camera), the perspective would make it seem as if he jumped higher than he did.

No way he does this for real. The insurance folks would blow a gasket.

Default The car is only 50 inches tall

This is possible, just not likely.

I don't think even Kobe is that stupid.

I think the convertable is probably at least a couple inches shorter than the version you linked. As well, vertical leap is not the same thing as vertical leap with legs bent. It looks like if Kobe's legs were extended at the highest point, they would hit the top of the windshield (assuming it was real, of course).

I watched the game last night, so I could watch Dickau and Turiaff play. Not too bad.

You could tell after the second time they played it that he wasn't in front of the car, but off to the side. The cool part was that he was hanging with Ronny.

If you watched the game last night you saw elton brand get called for a flagrant one fouling ronny hard as a "Response" to ronny dancing during the blowout. Ronny went to the line and made his first shot, and did a little in place dance at the line.

    Default Kobe jump

If you look at the pictures above, there is a shadow on the ground of a lamp post. Kobe is standing at the top of the shadow in the first picture. The edge of the wheel on the outside of the car drives over that same spot.

It is clear that Kobe is jumping next to the car not over it.

Adrian Wilson, the safety from the Cardianals. Keep in mind he is like 230-240 pounds of solid muscle, football player build.

He may have a 38' reported verticle, but when he bends his legs back, that adds another 24 (no idea how much) inches. It obviously isnt real, kobe would never risk his career for his new shoes that weigh 13 ounces.

Default I think the vertical leap is measured..

by how high you jump and touch you fingers as high as you can. first you measure how high you stand with your primary arm and hand as high as you can then see how high you can touch a ruler tape or background. Most NBA'ers can get there feet over 65 inches up. But the top of the head or hands can only go so far.

Personally, I think most NBA'ers could do this in real life if they wanted to. The Astin Martin is absolutely not more than 5 ft tall especially with the convertable down. My pick up truck isn't even 6 ft, or rather 72"

It's called a green screen. It was very well done (i.e. all the shadows were spot sourced and raytraced), but it was not real. This was professionally done to make it look like someone shot a home video, stuff like this takes big money (a.k.a Nike money).

yea but that is obviously a fake. A good one for how old those kids are though.

Just to add- When Kobe was asked about it on PTI he said that if Rocky could fight 6 times and still win matches when he is 60 years old that means Kobe can jump a car. Making it clear that hollywood can get away with stuff like this. So, the verdict- fake but he could do it if he was ballsy enough

This one is Kobe's first attempt at jumping the car. Listen for Turiaf's voice at the end. This is awesome.
