View Full Version : Candace Parker Goes Down - Knee

Candace Parker went down about 6:45 PM Spokane Time. It was near the end of their game with Mississippi State, Tennessee won by the way, by 17 pts. Candace was making a standard lay-up when she went down and was in much pain. She had to be lifted up and removed from the floor by others. The extent of the injury is unknown at this time. It may be hours or even days before the word gets out. Also injured was senior Alberta Auguste when she apparently re-injured a shoulder. A lessor injury was to Spokane's Angie Bjorklund,...she was hit in the face,...mid first half and did not return to the game. She had three 3's when she went out.

Tennessee won the game but would trade the win in a second for uninjured players. Monday night they face Rutgers at home! Rutgers beat undefeated UCon earlier this week!:(

Candace Parker - Looks like a hyper-extension of the knee. Other knee parts seem o.k. MRI in Knoxville tomorrow. Candace will be day-to-day.:)

Angie Bjorklund - Looks like a broken nose! Ouch! Very painful!:o

Thoughts and prayers go out to these players for a speedy recovery.

From Knoxville:

Spokane's Angie Bjorklund - X-rays confirmed she did break her nose. She caught a fist to her nose at the 17:52 mark in the second half. Miss. State says it was an accident,...the video replay makes it look "on purpose".

Alberta Auguste - Suffered a reoccurrence of her earlier shoulder/biceps strain.

Candace Parker - Sustained a bruse to her left knee. X-rays showed normal for her surgically repaired knee.

Rutgers vs. Tennessee matchup will be this Monday the 11th, ESPN2 at 4 PM local Spokane time. (I would double check the time.) This game will be a rematch of the 2007 NCAA title game between the two teams.:espn2:
