That's a bit high, imo. I'm sure the guys in vegas know what they're doing, but I think they might shave a point or two before game time.

Not unless people start taking USD and the points. The whole idea behind an opening line is to get the favorite's fans thinking, "that's a little high" and the underdog's fans thinking, "not sure we can cover that." Then the spread follows the action to ensure that those vegas-types can keep building those pretty casinos.

Oddsmakers set the GU/Pepperdine line at GU -13 1/2 and clueless LA bettors knocked it down to 12 by game time. This was a rare gift from the usually merciless god of gamblers. After seeing the Toreros play several times, I can say with certainty that the team hasn't absorbed Bill Grier's system (two scholarship players recently quit the team after seeing their minutes decrease) and tends to lapse into long scoring droughts. One or two of them against the Zags will spell a plus twenty point loss for USD.

A line more accurately reflecting the skill levels of the two teams at this juncture would be GU -20 1/2.

          Maybe

GU has done a poor job of covering the spread this season, although they did well the last 2 games. I think they will do ok tonight, but in high spread games I think that GU's concept of "sportsmanship" sometimes precludes the Bulldogs from continuing to score until the end of the game. On behalf of the GU point spread community, I wish they would keep playing at 100% until the end of each game.
