And it was in the first round.

I don't think that's what 71COUGS looking for...The Maryland game was our first show at the Big Dance (my senior year!) against the evenutual #1 draft pick, Joe Smith and Maryland.

Side Trivia - Who was Gonzaga's star to lead us to that first round loss to Maryland in 1995?

Gonzaga MBB's first appearance in a "national" tourney was in 1948 when the Zags played in the NAIA tourney (they played in the NAIA tourney again in 1953).

That would be the man who supplied GU fans with cheeseburgers all year in '95 (my frosh year)

If my memory isn't failing, that year GU came within 1 of the single game NCAA record for 3-ptrs in a game as well.

I think ButlerGuy may agree with me when I say that might get broken this year by the "other" Bulldogs. Or Duke, they are ridiculous.

How 'bout The Bald One?

John Riley...An Australian. He's made a nice career for himself down under...I wonder if Pat Mills knows him?

It is interesting that the Cougs remember with fondness their NIT games. While the several NIT appearances are part of Zag history and are noteworthy -- I choose to spend more time dwelling on the NCAA appearances and successes.

Maybe some day the Cougs will also have some NCAA tourney achievements -- so they won't have to dig through the annals and find an NIT game to dig up to throw on a rival's board.

I post lots of stuff on this board and nothing is ever posted as a slam and this was a "National" game not that NIT's aren't.

I was just looking at some stuff on http://www.sportstats.com and thought it might be of interest.

I found it interesting and thought it might be fun at the end of a day to see if anyone on the site remembered. Clearly someone did.\

I'll let you travel to the site and find out about Cougar History if you desire.
