Both Texas Tech and Butler run the motion offense. In all three meetings the Zags have had with these teams they have struggled defensively, giving up wide-open threes and getting out rebounded.

Are there any other teams the Zags will face this year that run a motion offense? If so, major preparation is in order.

The Flex is in reality a variation of the motion wherein the offense rotates around a different point than the motion. In both offenses constant movement by all involved is required. And yes, we will see several versions of both during the season.

I think of the Flex as much more structured than a true motion offense. There are counters and cut aways, but for the most part it is a continuous, constant pattern. A Bob Knight motion with blockers/cutters is much less open, not run on a specific pattern. That type of blockers/cutters motion when run well is hard to defend.

I haven't seen much of Butler, not sure what exactly they run.
