View Full Version : Comment on the players' sizes

During the warmups before the TTU game, my wife and I took the opportunity to go down to the arena floor while the Zags were warming up. This was the first time I had seen these Zags players up close. We were right by the players at first, literally a few feet away then we moved to a different side of the floor so my wife could take some pictures with her camera where we were about 10 feet away.

Let me just say they are a lot bigger in person than they appear on tv. I believe Bouldin is listed as 6'5. I know he has big hair ("6'5, 6'7 with the fro") but either he has grown since they originally measured him at 6'5 or they were wrong to begin with. Because he was standing next to Sacre (who is listed at 7'0) and there wasn't much difference, height-wise. I am guessing he is more like 6'7 and yes I am taking into account his curly hair. Also Bouldin is quite burly. He is built like a football player.

Daye is very tall, his thinness probably makes him seem even taller than he is. Also his arms are ridiculously long.

Sacre is proportionally built (much like Shaq is one of the rare 7 footers who is proportional). He has room to put on a lot more bulk though. He actually seems almost slender even though his strength was quite evident during the games.

Will Foster is gigantic.

Pendergraft is also taller than he seems on tv. I am 6'3 and he seemed about 6'6 or 6'7, and he is pretty muscular too (like Bouldin). I guess I always knew he was about 6'6, but I wasn't prepared for how large (bulky) he is.

Heytvelt is obviously a large dude too.

Kuso drank a lot of Powerade during warmups, I think he gulped about 3 large cups in a row while the female trainer was standing by him watching. I guess he knew he was going to sweat it out during the game. :)

As a team they had good chemistry, they all seemed to get along and I noticed Bouldin and Downs had some sort of secret handshake they did when the starters were announced before each game.

You'll notice Downs was 0-1 from 3 while Bouldin was 6-8. The secret handshake was to magically transfer 3-pt shooting ability. Not that I don't like Downs to shoot 3s, but if Bouldin could maybe get part-time custody of the 3-pt shot they apparently share, that would be fine by me. :)

Thanks for the laugh Nevtelen. Once early in Ammo's high school junior year when watching his breakout 30+ game against CV I had a similar thought about him stealing one of his Mead teammate's three point shooting ability.

From the Anchorage Daily News Photo Gallery of the 2007 shootout (http://www.adn.com/photos/alaskashootout/2007/directory/):

I thought Pendo in this shot from the WKU game looked more like he should be riding a tractor some place or wrestling bulls than springing for the hoop:

Two very tall, very skinny young men, with very long arms, getting airborne - Austin and Micah vs. WKU:

Holy freakishly long arms, Batman!
