View Full Version : Question... banners in the MAC

We post the Men's Basketball NCAA appearances, but we don't even recognize the Men's Basketball WCC championships. In my opinion a school begins to build a program by becoming dominate in their conference first. I'd like to see some kind of recognition for the Zag's WCC regular season championships. This program deserves some recognition for what they have accomplished in the WCC conference. Does anyone have any insight into why we don't show WCC regular season titles on a banner or something?

Lets show all the trappings of success.

I think we would start to run out of room, and distract from the NCAA ones

I think it's because there is no official "regular season" title in teh WCC - like most leagues... just the 1 seed in the WCC tournament.

The current GU media guide (Pg. 3 ) lists GU as having won 7 consecutive WCC Championships under Coach Few:

In 2003, the Zags lost the WCC Tourney to San Diego; so while the automatic bid goes to the tourney winner ( and can render the regular season results moot ) from someone in the GU athletic department's point of view-- the editor of the media guide?-- the regular season Won-Loss record counts for the WCC Championship.

Of course, they don't hand out a trophy until the Championship game is decided in the WCC tournament. . .

IMO, there ought to be a large banner for the WCC titles and room to add the years as those titles accumulate. . .otherwise the place would resemble a high school gym (at least the last HS gym I was in)
