I was looking up all time wins leaders for NCAA basketball today and the top 4 were just who you'd expect, but #5 was a bit of a surprise to me. I wanted to see if anybody could guess #5. If you look it up please dont ruin it for others for a couple days, honest guesses only.
Hint: it's not Gonzaga, they came in at 37th.

1) 2293 - Kentucky
2) 2274 - Kansas
3) 2261 - North Carolina
4) 2176 - Duke
5) 1926 - ?

It wouldn't surprise fans of basketball from the 70's & 80's.

More surprising to me - our conference mate BYU is #11 with 1,829 wins.

I'm gonna guess Indiana... they used to be pretty good every year.

My guess would be the back to back to whatever teams of Alcindor and Walton.

Is it temple? I seem to remember seeing this somewhere last year. If not, that’s my guess

That’s a good one too ... wonder if they passed them. Know a few others were close too. Been awhile though. Enter yellow smiley face thingy here)

BDM THANKS for putting this on the board!

I like IU, Temple, UCLA and Syracuse...

I have to go with Temple...John Chaney won a lot of games

Georgetown?

Now that I’ve looked, i crunched a couple of numbers. Prior to the Mark Few era, Gonzaga had won 53% of their games. That number is now over 60%. That’s pretty impressive, but to be expected given all the winning the Zags have seen under him.

The erstwhile Redmen?

Those are all good guesses. I’ll guess Louisville due to the volume of wins they racked up in weaker conferences before they joined the ACC.

Pretty sure I know ... We beat them in the Dance several years back, though it was way too close for comfort.

Gotta go with UCLA as well.

What about MOST wins this century, aka since 2000?

GU gotta be high on that list, up there somewhere

It seems like the Zags are posed to pass several programs this year and may jump as high as 31 overall for program wins.

30 Arkansas ........... 1,688
31 Alabama ............ 1,675
32 Oklahoma .......... 1,674
33 Georgetown ....... 1,672
34 Missouri State .... 1,670
35 Bradley ............. 1,669
36 Oregon .............. 1,669
37 Gonzaga ............ 1,668

(note - these numbers cribbed from Wikipedia... I did not do any further searching to verify any of the numbers)

I’m going to take your hint it might be a surprise and guess the USF Dons given their history in the 1940-50s especially.

Didn't look at that. Definitely could see jumping everyone short of Arkansas on that list.

In case anyone didn't look it up, the answer was Temple. I've been watching college basketball for about 30 years now, and while they've always been decent, I would have been guessing for a long time before I got to them. Temple has been to 2 final fours, 1956 and 1958. My first 2 guesses would have been UCLA (7th) and Indiana (10th). Syracuse was 6th, but I think they were in 5th until a couple years ago when they vacated a bunch of wins. Thanks, it was fun seeing everyone's guesses.

My unresearched guess as well.

I was going to guess the Arizona Wildcats; they won a lot of games when Lute Olson was the coach.
