After declaring for the NBA draft in March, point guard Jimmy Whitt has now entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal. ... Would be a graduate transfer. ... Whitt, who averaged a team-high 35 minutes per game this season, was a major contributor for the Mustangs and SMU's leader at the point. He averaged 12.3 points per game, and team-highs in rebounds per game (6.4) and assists per game (4). He became well-know for being the American Athletic Conference's top zone-buster, utilizing a wonky-looking but deadly accurate mid-range shot to keep SMU in ballgames."

Hmmm... indeed. I like the rebounding numbersó understanding that it can be influenced by coaching philosophy, though.

Whitts' athleticism looks promising. Lots of highlights of him catching lobs, gets to the rim well, and appears good from midrange along with nice defense but doesn't take/make 3's and can't hit free throws

Just from watching some highlights, he doesn't really look like a Mark Few kind of player. Clearly has talent, but I would be kind of surprised if we were heavily involved here. Will be interesting to see if we reach out

SMU grad transfer Jimmy Whitt tells me he's receiving interest from Arkansas, Virginia Tech, Gonzaga, Oregon, and Texas A&M. Returning to SMU is also an option.

Can anyone confirm to me how many scholarships we have left if Tillie returns and Thornton comes in?

Can anyone confirm to me how many scholarships we have left if Tillie returns and Thornton comes in?Zero if that. That would put us at 13 on scholarship

Sounds like Thorton or Whitt, whoever commits first or we look for another point/combo guard or leave it as it stands

Another nice (but somewhat short) article on Whitt:

"Whitt told CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein that Arkansas, Virginia Tech, Oregon, Gonzaga and Texas A&M are interested in him, but returning to SMU is also an option."

Arkansas has landed another transfer; SMU grad transfer Jimmy Whitt just announced he will play this season for the Razorbacks. Big get for Eric Musselman & Co.
