Zags Take Sweep
- Gonzaga enters the Texas A&M series fresh off a two-game sweep at then-No. 23 Southern Miss last weekend.
- In a weather-filled trip, the Friday game was postponed to Saturday, making a doubleheader which the Zags won 4-2 and 10-8 (10). Sunday's game began and played into the fourth with USM leading 7-1, but weather caused a delay, which turned into a cancellation. The game officially went down as a no contest due to five innings not being completed.

Offense Coming
- Gonzaga has three straight games with at least 11 hits and scored in double figures in two of the last three.
- Designated hitter Mason Marenco got his first-career start against Southern Miss in the first game of the doubleheader and went 4-for-4.
- Then in the night cap, Gonzaga newcomer Guthrie Morrison went 4-for-5, to collect the second four-hit game of the day for a Zag.

Sullivan Continues to Mash
- Newcomer Ryan Sullivan hit three more home runs in four games at CSUN and one more in two games at Southern Miss to give him a team-best five on the season.
- He leads the team with a .357 batting average, .810 slugging percentage and on-base percentage of .438. He also has a team-leading 15 hits, 15 runs and 10 RBI.
- He hit .389 with a 1.000 slugging percentage at CSUN in four games, totaling three homers, six RBI and nine runs scored in that series alone.

Newcomers Stepping Up
- Along with Sullivan's big weekend at CSUN, Gonzaga newcomers Guthrie Morrison also stepped up. Sullivan joined the Zags from Iowa Western CC, while Morrison came from Edmonds [Wash.] CC.
- At CSUN, Morrison hit .375 with six hits in four games, knocking in three and scoring three times.
- He then went 6-for-9 against Southern Miss with two doubles, a triple and three runs scored.

New Closer
- Last weekend, Gonzaga head coach Mark Machtolf tabbed Alek Jacob with the closing duties, and Jacob responded by earning the save in both games of a doubleheader.
- He totaled 2.2 innings over the course of the two games, allowed zero runs, just three hits and struck out four.

Lights Out Legumina
- Casey Legumina, who returned to GU after being drafted in the 35th round of the MLB Draft last summer, is torching hitters with 24 strikeouts in 19.0 innings pitched across three starts.
- Against Southern Miss, he earned the win, going 7.0 innings with just two earned runs on three hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.
- He's allowed hitters to bat just .147 against him and has a 0.89 WHIP and 1.89 ERA on the season so far...

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Gonzaga baseball sprinted out to a 6-0 lead and held on in a 6-4 win over No. 20/22 Texas A&M in the series opener on Friday night in College Station, Texas.

The win is Gonzaga's (5-6) third in a row and all have come against Top 25 opponents, while Texas A&M's (13-3) loss snapped a five-game win streak. GU defeated then-No. 23 Southern Miss in a doubleheader last weekend.

"That was a huge win against an elite opponent in a very elite atmosphere," head coach Mark Machtolf said. "Our offense did a great job being ready to go from the first pitch, and our pitchers showed great resolve and composure throughout the game."

Gonzaga starter Casey Legumina turned in another solid performance on the mound, going 5.0 shutout innings while allowing just four hits with five strikeouts and just one walk. Alek Jacob picked up his third save of the season with 3.0 innings of work.

At the plate, Gonzaga put runners on base all night, pounding out 12 hits. Austin Pinorini was the star of the night, going 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored. Josh Bristyan added two RBI singles and Guthrie Morrison scored twice.

Facing Texas A&M starter John Doxakis, who had allowed just one earned run in three starts this season, the Zags got on the bats with four hits and two runs in the top of the first inning. Troy Johnston knocked home one with a bloop single, and then Bristyan punched a single through the right side to score another.

After Legumina cruised through his first two innings, GU got another RBI single from Bristyan in the third inning for a 3-0 lead.

Gonzaga then added to its lead in the sixth with back-to-back run-scoring doubles. First, Ernie Yake brought home Isaac Barrera, then Austin Pinorini scored both Yake and Guthrie Morrison to push the lead to 6-0.

Texas A&M responded with two runs in the bottom of the sixth against GU reliever Taylor Davis and two more in the eighth against Alek Jacob.

Jacob returned for the ninth and shut the door on his three-inning outing to get the save.

Gonzaga stranded 11 runners on base, but A&M left 13 on base.

The Zags and Aggies will play the second of a three game series on Saturday in College Station, Texas, at Noon PT/2 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on SEC Network + and online on WatchESPN.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Gonzaga baseball wasn't able to figure out the Texas A&M offense on Saturday in a 14-2 loss at Blue Bell Park in College Station, Texas.

The Aggies (14-4) scored seven runs in the fourth and five more in the eighth to blow the game open against Gonzaga (5-7).

Ernie Yake, Mason Marenco and Troy Johnston each had two hits for the GU offense. Yake and Guthrie Morrison collected one RBI apiece.

"We need to do a good job of having a short memory and give ourselves the best chance to win tomorrow," head coach Mark Machtolf said. "This is what we signed up for as a team and I'm excited to see the response on Sunday."

The Aggies broke the game open in the fourth inning, getting seven runs to push a 2-1 lead to 9-1. After Texas A&M scored two in the first, GU starter Mac Lardner set the Aggies down in order in the second and third innings. The fourth inning was a different story as Texas A&M sent 11 batters to the plate in the frame.

Gonzaga had cut the early 2-0 lead to 2-1 with an RBI single by Morrison through the left side, but Aggie starter Asa Lacy settled in and went 6.0 innings, allowing just three hits and the one run while striking out seven.

After the Aggies seven-run fourth, GU's Michael Spellacy quieted the bats for the next 3.2 innings, allowing no runs on two hits, while striking out three.

The Aggies got back on the board and put the game out of reach with a five-run eighth inning.

The Zags and Aggies will wrap up the three-game series on Sunday in College Station, Texas, at 10 a.m. PT/1 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on SEC Network + and online on WatchESPN.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Gonzaga baseball outhit No. 20/22 Texas A&M 8-5, but the Zags could only push one run across in a 3-1 loss in the rubber match of the series in College Station, Texas, on Sunday.

Gonzaga (5-8) took the early lead, but the Aggies (15-3) manufactured three runs and stifled the Zags offense for the final seven innings to get the win.

GU allowed just five hits in the game, getting 5.0 innings of one-run ball from Nick Trogrlic-Iverson and a shutout inning from Mason Wells to keep the Aggies within striking distance.

Isaac Barrera led the way with three hits for Gonzaga, and Ryan Sullivan hit his sixth homer of the year to provide the only run for GU. He had two hits in the game.

Gonzaga struck first in the top of the second with Sullivan's solo home run to lead off the inning. GU put one more runner on in the frame with a double by Mason Marenco, but the Aggies got out of the jam.

In the bottom of the second, Texas A&M countered with a two-RBI double that fell on the foul line down right field. Trogrlic-Iverson then came on in the third and kept Texas A&M scoreless for the next four innings.

The Aggies then extended the lead in the seventh with a run-scoring single to make it 3-1, but GU ended the inning when centerfielder Guthrie Morrison made a highlight-reel sliding catch, then doubled off the runner at first.

The Zags put two on with one out in the eighth, but a pair of flyouts ended the GU threat.

Gonzaga will have a travel day on Monday before taking on Utah in Salt Lake City on Tuesday. That game will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Networks.
