What Would Zags Achieve by Winning Out WCC Season and Tourney.

Guaranteed #1 seed in the dance, possibly the #1 one-seed.
Stretch record of away conference games without a loss to 32.
    Stretch win streak to 22.
Reach 300 wins over the past three seasons.
Push Coach Few’s winning percentage to 2nd all-time, passing coach/author Claire Bee.
Win both the WCC season and tournament championships for seventh straight year.

Some things to play for for certain!

That said, would prefer a loss to an injury.

Go Zags! Final Four and beyond!

“That said, would prefer a loss to an injury.” Definitely!

Been a great year. Right now I’m thinking that barring any more injuries, AND IF BOTH Tillie and Petrusev can make solid contributions, the Zags have a fifty/fifty chance to win it all. Without them my hopes exceed my expectations because I don’t think we’ll have the depth needed to beat, beat, and keep beating the teams that will stand between us and the championship. Guess I’m trying to say we’ll get “out depthed” without Tillie and Petrol, if that makes any sense.

So, here’s to No More Injuries, Tillie’s recovery and return to form and ...........More Petrol !

I don’t know about 300 wins, but 31 wins this season brings the 3 year total to 100 wins.

The idea of gaining the overall #1 seed by beating up some more on the WCC is nonsense. At this point we have proved conference dominance, convinced most observers and fans that the league hasn't really improved, and the remaining league games can only hurt us in the seedings, not help us. If we run the table and remain perfect we will likely get the 4th #1. If we lose a game, we get bumped.

I beg to differ. We have several more opportunities for tier 1 and tier 2 wins, some of which will depend on how the WCC tournament plays out. If we get those wins it helps our resume and they are as valuable as tier 1 or tier 2 wins in the ACC or any other conference.

The committee considers those solid wins. Not solid "WCC wins"* with an asterisk.

The WCC is not the albatross many here think it is. It's a solid conference just one notch below the top tier conferences. It will be less of a problem this year for our tournament resume than at any year since Few became a coach.

Let's not get too excited about the overall number 1 seed. That situation happens in our case as other teams play themselves out. It really has nothing to do with us.

I don't know what a "tier 1" or "tier 2" win is, but if you are referencing the quadrant wins that the selection committee uses, we might get 1 more:

Only 1 of our 4 remaining reg season games would potentially count as quadrant 1 or even Quad 2 win. It would also Require SMC to not lose enough games to fall below 75 in the NET ranking. If we beat SMC In Moraga on March second it's likely it's a Quad 1 win.

We'll then play 2 neutral site games in the WCC Tourney. The only way we could score an additional Quad 1 win on that neutral floor is by beating a top 50 team. The only top 50 team in the WCC is SMC. If we have beat them on 3/2, it will probably knock them from the top 50 (they are at 47). So it's likely that no WCC tourney team (except us) will be top 50 in NET. Even if our schedule includes all wins (away win @ SMC, a Neutral site Tourney win over SMC, a neutral site tourney win over @ USD/BYU/USD) that is just a single Quad1 win possibility. There's an outside chance that if SMC loses just to us on 3/2 and again to us in the WCC finals, they'd be a top-50 win both times, but that's hard to say.

There's no way we get one of the top 2 overall #1 seeds. It's not that complex.

Agree about the upside limits given Zags’ opponents. However, look at the schedules for other teams in the top eight. For example, North Carolina turns the table on Duke, Tennessee gets revenge versus Kentucky, Virginia drops a game or two, and suddenly everything changes and doors are wide open.

Zags continue to win and raise defensive efficiency, who knows what could occur? That’s why they play the games. Enjoy!

Another great ride, especially if it leads to another final four. After that, as Coach Few reminds us, it’s a crap shoot. Got to love the permutations.

Thanks, everyone, for your comments. You make this board interesting and stimulating.
