    Post game radio GU-UNC

Hudson and Morrison: Tarheels took the lead early and led for the majority of the night to hand the Bulldogs their second consecutive loss. Last two game losing streak in 2014, BYU and USD. 103-90 final. GU lead very early and UNC went ahead 13-12 and that was as close as GU ever got. Numerous opportunities to close the lead but UNC dominated the game tonight. UNC was more ready to play and the most glaring stat was probably rebounding where the Heels held a 43 -22 advantage. 4 Zags in double figures, it's been that way in all 11 game this year. Norvell 21, Perk 20, Rui 17 and Clarke 15. GU shot 51% from the floor but Carolina shot 52% from three and 54.7% for the game. Zags 78% from the line at 18-23 but UNC 80% at 20-25. Zags outplayed in every facet tonight. UNC bench outscore GU 25-13. UNC gave the Zags plenty of opportunity to get back in the game. GU would cut the lead to 8 and then give up a turnover and a three. It was like that all night. Anytime the Zags made a bit of a push the just couldn't make that one more play. Missed front ends of one and ones, missed free throws by UNC, offensive rebounds and a kickout for a three, the Zags just didn't make the plays. Credit to UNC they played an excellent game except for TO's where they had 23. If you just looked at that stat you would anticipate a closer game but tonight that stat is misleading.

Michaelson: The rebounding was the may problem tonight. That 3 Johnson made late in the shot clock was indicative of the night. Anytime we made somewhat of a run, a couple silly TO's, missed free throws. When we got stops we couldn't score and when we scored we couldn't get stops. Their veterans really stepped up and obviously Johnson killed us. With our schedule to finish 9-2 is pretty good and this four game stretch with our short bench is really tough. We had 4 guys really cramping up tonight to the point where Perk could hardly walk. Interestingly GU outscored UNC 51-50 in the second half as they shot the ball a lot better.

Tonights game was the first time GU has played in the Dean Dome. Perks 20 was a season high. NOrvell over 20 for the fifth time this season. GU's offensive numbers were actually pretty good tonight but when you are minus 21 on the glass and outscored 27-0 on second chance points it's pretty tough to win a game. Snax, Perk, Rui and Clarke all 32 plus minutes in the game. Morrison said he just can't stop looking at the rebound stats, said there is some work to be done there. That's pretty much it.

Added content: Morrison: Third time this year UNC outrebounded an opponent by 20 or more. GU made too many boneheaded plays. It's gonna be a long trip home and it's gonna be tough in the film room. You gotta be tough enough to grab some rebounds. Our guys need to understand this and I'm sure they're gonna hear about it. Hudson was impressed with Petrusev, especially against the quality opponents the Zags have faced recently and Morrison said he expects Petrusev to get more minutes.

Did Petrusev even see the floor in the second half?

We lost this game by 13 points!!! That is four possessions!

We were out rebounded by 20+ and UNC had 27 second chance points to our ZERO!

Maye's 16 rebounds and Johnson shooting six for eight from behind the arc killed us! How did Make get 16 boards!!! I am positive the staff made this a key point that he is a rebounding machine and needed to be blocked out. Rui was his primary defender so that is something HE needs to address...

We have 22 games for us to get ready for the Dance and I think this team will be ready. Tillie and Crandall will be ready (fingers crossed) for conference play and will go 9-deep. AND when Tillie works himself into the starting line-up, we will be a completely different team with Rui playing the SF vice the PF...match-up issues for everyone...my mouth is watering with anticipation!

We will be coming in "under the radar" for the Dance!

Thanks for the excellent postgame radio summary Section. Very much appreciated.
Even though I care a lot about my basketball opinions, they are like comparing a bicycle to a championship motorcycle who is our coach. . ZagsGoZags

To their credit they never gave in...they outscored the Tar Heels in the second half and had a chance to win with just minutes left..

            Perkin's scoring was very reassuring....

Yes Perkins has to score so opponents respect him after screens. Against Tennessee they just stayed with the screener and dared him to score sagging out to take away options. I think Clarke is on top of everyone's scouting sheet not letting him run as free as in the beginning of the season. These losses sting but will pay dividends in March playing such a tough stretch.
