Shareef O'Neal, the son of Shaquille O'Neal and a four-star recruit at UCLA (http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/team/_/id/26/ucla-bruins), will miss the entire 2018-19 season after doctors discovered a heart ailment that will require surgery.

That's awful. Thank God they caught it. He's a young man - who knows if he even would have seen a doctor if it hadn't been for playing basketball.

Is this one of those types of things that will prevent him from ever playing competitively again?

I haven't seen any info as to what specifically he has. So without any info it's hard to tell.

Just so thankful they have more research into what to look for in very tall black men who seem uniquely susceptible to the heart trouble Ronny, Shareef, and probably Hank Gathers all had. Gathers never was diagnosed, thankfully some now are, including our beloved Turiaf.
