Gonzaga completes basketball schedule with Nov. 1 exhibition game against Central Washington and Nov. 10 home game against Texas Southern

I didn't realize you could schedule games before November 13, and yet the Idaho State game is on 11/6 and the Texas Southern game is on 11/10. It's good to see we're getting two warmup games before Texas A&M comes in.

BTW - I am willing to bet that Texas Southern was scheduled because Gonzaga wanted to get another game in before playing A&M, but there just weren't any Akron-type schools available, so they were forced into taking a SWAC team. We need to remember that a great deal of scheduling from teams was completed by the time the WCC announced the 16 game league schedule, so GU may have needed to fill in some gaps with a couple of teams they didn't want to play. Coach Few and his staff enjoy a very good relationship with Texas Southern coach Mike Davis, going all the way back to his days at IU.

This schedule was made on the fly to a certain extent. For those wishing for a few less Texas Southerns and North Alabamas and a few more good mid majors or major conference teams like Rutgers and Mississippi who GU can get without a return game, I think we will get a clearer idea of how GU really wants to schedule next season.

Scheduling like this puts a lot more pressure on the team to win the few marquee games we have. If we lose those games we have no margin for error given that we scheduled so many awful teams for our home slate in our ooc.

Well, if we're going to have to schedule one of the poorer programs, Texas Southern is the one I'll pick every time. They play hard, they play right, they're well-coached, they can scare a team that's not ready (ask Izzo), and they're fun to root on the rest of the year.

Very true. I don't know if there are as many "awful teams" as say, last year when you consider some factors. There are more teams who will be in the 180's and low 200's. Teams live Denver, North Dakota State and Cal State Bakersfield. One of these teams might slip into the 130's. I guess the disappointment is that I was hoping to avoid teams like Texas Southern and North Alabama who are going to be in the 300's in whatever this new metric is. I would rather schedule a D-2 team than North Alabama. This is North Alabam's very first year in division one basketball. They are headed for a ton of losses. I don't know if the new metric kicks out D-2 teams, but the RPI did.

Last year's schedule also didn't feature many games against teams like Texas A&M and Illinois that Gonzaga should beat. Lots of folks think UW has a crack at the NCAA's this year due to how much the Pac 12 has regressed. The game that is scary for me is Creighton. Folks - Villanova lost at that arena last year. It's one of the hardest arenas to play at in the nation, and from what I can tell the Blue Jays may not make the NCAA's this season. But the game environment, with 16,000+ crazy Blue Jay fans in the crowd, is going to be nasty.

Also consider that Gonzaga won't have to play two games against WCC bottom feeders this season. I have to believe that some of these teams like Bakersfield are going to have a better metric than Portland. Let's hope, anyway.

I am anxious to see what the schedulers do for 2019/20. Especially because GU could be losing multiple players to the draft with eligibility left, and the staff can only prepare for that so much unless certain guys have already told them already "I'm gone after this year." I am sure Rui has. Do you really want to load up and risk losing a ton of games in the non-conference?

BTW - An error on my part. I forgot that Mike Davis is no longer coaching at Texas Southern. He took the job at Detroit Mercy.

Jim Meehan made an excellent comment in the Press Box podcast today about the spacing of the schedule. I brought up several times last year that between the end of PK80 and Villanova, Gonzaga tried to fit in too many games. I still believe that and will so until I die. If you write up the whole schedule for this season, there is lots of space between games. Being able to start so early (11/6) is going to help the team. It will also allow Perkins to get more rest if the Crandall thing doesn't pan out.

Mike Davis is no longer the HC at TXSO...he's now the HC at Detroit-Mercy. I'm hopeful TXSO will still be a less than horrible opponent, but not sure if that will be the case without a strong coach like Davis.

OK the Gozags website only has the schedule up for the Kraziness in the Kennel, followed by the conference schedule. No dates and times for OOC games.

I just renewed my season tickets today and I am trying to plan on which games I will attend.

Does the complete schedule with dates and (if possible) tip times exist anywhere?

I can't wait for the Wooohoo schedule because even if he sent it I'd lose it in the time twilight zone in transit...Also he seems to be preoccupied and a bit behind the 8 ball this year. I blame Francis....

The schedule is up on ESPN. Just look for Gonzaga or ESPN's top 20.

Sorry those schedules were last years. However I found this year's schedule on Gonzaga's Guru web site. A really tough schedule. Expect 2 or 3 losses.

usually comes out end of october/ early november. it's not so much that he's any later this year (and won't be for ~2 months still)... it's more that you're jumping the gun a little bit.

but i totally get the ask. just wanted to be fair to woohoo and his work.

Yep, my schedule actually comes out pretty late because I always wait until 95% of the games have the exact tv channel listed. I always like having that info not the schedule, but for some reason, a lot of that isn’t available until at least mid-October!

Also, yes, Francis is partially to blame for sure.

The closed scrimmage versus Michigan St. will be played in Minneapolis on the 27th.

I'm sure Few will make useof the location to impart a message...

Start the season in Minny, finish it in Minny.

Last year most of the games on Root were available for east coast viewers on The W.tv or ESPN3. Does anyone know if this trend will continue this year.
