View Full Version : OT- Who are some old dogs that can answer a few questions about this roster? '62-'63

I'm considering buying this vintage zags game program from the 1962-1963 season. I really have just 2-3 questions.

First, I definitely recognize a few of these names, but who were the 'top dogs' of this squad?

Next, any idea how many of these guys are still living?

Last...WONDER IF I COULD FIND ANY OF THEM?!?!?! My thought is to mail it to whoever is available, and have those players sign it. Could be a sweet piece to frame in the zags man cave.

Rich Juarez was an assistant coach at GU for several years.

Kentucky, Tennessee, California, Greece. It could be a list of hometowns from today's Zags.

IIRC, Juarez graduated then took over as Harrington HS coach , took them to the state B Championship and then came back to GU as an asst.

And when Hank Anderson left Gonzaga in 1972 many thought Rich Jaurez would assume the head coaching job at GU. He did not but rather followed Anderson to Montana State as an assistant. When Hank left MSU, Jaurez became head coach of the Bobcats and coached from 1974 to 1978.

Woohoo this is an Oregon state program with pictures of all Oregon state players and info about Oregon State basketball. Not really for a Gonzaga fan.

I did actually notice that after the fact. I think it would still be neat to have, but definitely not as interesting to me when I figured that part out!

Thanks everyone for your stories and input. It’s been a fun and educational thread nonetheless.

Are you and Francis cashing in on the “goat yoga” craze?

Francis has been in prison since June. I'd been reminding him for months that he's not allowed within 100 yards of the local school, but he was picked up by the FBI on the school property (wearing nothing but a trench coat and makeup) while trying to set up a booth to sell 'Homemade Glue". Whatever that means.

‘62-‘63 was my freshman year. Home games were played in Spokane Arena. I remember Isaac “Zeke” Pope very well. Great guy who loved to play pinochle in the study rooms in Welch Hall. Fascinating life story. He went on to graduate from UW Medical School and set up a pediatric practice in Centralia, WA. This is an old article from the Seattle P-I. I don’t know if he still practices.

Holy crap. I knew this would eventually happen.
