This should be as good as summer scrimmages to see what kind of player he has developed into.

Best of luck for Joel! No injuries, stay healthy, work hard.

I would think just making the team is already a positive sign.

+1

Let’s see how the handles are with that 6’8” wingspan. I think if his decision making is good and he takes care of the ball, he will be a valuable asset if for no other reason than his defense (based on reports).

I was thinking that, too. Hopefully he’s a starter and/or gets lots of run.

here's the roster (http://www.fiba.basketball/europe/u18/2018/team/France#|tab=roster) if anyone is curious. ja is listed as an SG there.

was kinda hoping to see killian hayes on there just so we could see him and ayayi together... as watching joel's play (and minutes/role) alongside a more known commodity would be instructive. alas, no joy. anyone familiar with any of the other players listed?

I don’t have a clue. Some good soccer players are from Cholet though. I’m glad Heister doesn’t have to try to pronounce those beautiful names on the roster.

i know. wasn't about hayes at all. i, for one, have seen more of hayes-- more games, highlights, stats, scouting reports, what-have-you than i have of ayayi. as i said above, seeing how (and how much) he would have played with hayes on the roster would have told me more about where he is in his development and what we can expect from him than all of the youtube highlights or secondhand practice reports i've seen thus far.

i'd sure get excited about what ayayi could bring this year if, for example, he earned a starting spot or at least significant minutes and held his own with hayes alongside. or, going the other way, if he fails to get minutes or make an impact, having hayes there would give us a better idea of what level talent beat him out. either way, we lack evaluative context that we'd have if there was a more known quantity in the equation. that's all i was saying :)

I suck w posting links from iPhone but Ayayi’s official Euro U18 pic is here. He looks older and much more physically developed to me. Good luck Joel!!

Still woefully lean base and legs, which has consistently been one of the knocks against Ayayi in scouting reports.

He gets knocked around easily, bottled up on screens, & just lacks power/explosion as a result. 6'5", 155lbs when he arrived, still only 170lbs now.

Needs to fill out to be taken seriously at the D1 level.

Good news, still only 18. Wont be 19 til next February. Actively growing.

Hopefully his ball handling and picknroll game is improving. His speed and length are blue chip. His defense is D1 ready, yet his strength, handles, & 3pt shot are JV

They look good! Michael Jordan is trying to make some inroads into the French fashion capitol. He opened a Jordan store reasonably close to the Champs Elysėes last fall and asked Les Twins to join the Jordan family.
