Nice to see Rui 2 for 3 on three pointers. Delly had a horrible game; 2/11 including 0/5 on three pointers.

The more Rui improves from 3 the higher his NBA draft position improves.

If Rui keeps that up, he is destined for a Top 10, if not Top 5 pick.

If he is picked later than 10, all those teams whiffed imho.

Rui is not only NBA good, he is All Star good by the time he is 25. Only 20 now...

Happy to see his ankle has healed. And his head contusion. The rest this week was clearly needed.

Wow! Australia had Thon Maker and Dellie...two NBA vets. Rui scores 16pts in the first half. Wow.

I like the 2nd video best. The guy guarding Rui ends up on his butt as Rui does a reverse dribble drive and scores.

When is the next game? Do they show the games live?

I’m showing my pictures of Big D and Rui to friends, letting them know he’s the Mavericks likely pick next year. Cuban wants the Japanese market. It would have to be a top 5 pick, as they dealt a protected pick to Atlanta for Doncic.

Big game next game... If Japan beats Chinese Taipei they advance to the next round of qualifying I believe. Lose and they are done.

Pretty sure the games are on TV. The Rui vs Aussie game was televised if I'm not mistaken.
Try this link:
US viewers should be able to see it on http://www.livebasketball.tv/ (and probably various other streaming options)

If worse comes to worst and they don't make the World Cup in 2019 they will be in the Olympics 2020, they are the host nation.

FIBA allows every nation to naturalize one foreign born citizen. The reason United States never does is because they don't have to for obvious reasons. Japan naturalized Fazekas

Got to watch that game ending. Must have been insane! Game Story (http://www.espn.com.au/basketball/story/_/id/23944303/japan-shocks-australia-keeps-hopes-alive)

Japan scored four straight baskets inside the final 20 seconds capped by Hachimura's breakaway slam with 11.3 ticks remaining to make it 79-74, which sealed the much-needed victory.

The Aussies would score four more after that but time was simply not on their side.

So happy for Japan. Australia finished in the TOP-4 in the Rio Olympics. They're a legit team. Huge win.

the guy guarding him on that play was daniel kickert, formerly of smc. :) ETA: apparently spy beat me to this one.

the one thing i'm curious about from the boxscore is the +/-. interestingly, fazekas and rui had almost 2/3 of japan's points and both played 3/4s of the game... but they had +/-s of -5 and -11, respectively -- and japan still won. obviously, there are all kinds of possible explanations from matchups, to strategy (maybe japan had more success when not predictably playing through their stars?), or maybe other lineups just played much better defense (maybe because rui hasn't played on the senior team for long, they simplify the scheme on that end when he's in?), or maybe the story of the game was one big run that just happened to take place while he took a breather.

so did anyone watch the game? do you have any insight on this?

regardless, japan lost by 11 in the 30 minutes rui played, and won by 12 in the 10 minutes he was out. other than that, his stats look great. this isn't a criticism. they're just the numbers and i would like to understand them.

To be fair, this was like Australia's "C" team, no Bogut, Simmons, Exum, Patty Mills, Ingles, Baynes, Bolden or Mathiang, but still a good win for japan over a "name" opponent.

Shouldn't be an issue, they lost to the Philippines by 20+. On a side note, why does the whole world kiss China's butt by referring to Taiwan as Chinese Taipei?

Fair enough. But in Rio Olympics Australia also didn't have Simmons, Exum, Bolden or Mathiang. This is still a pretty strong roster that Japan beat, featuring 2 NBA players.

Australia and Canada will be medal contenders for the foreseeable future for sure. On another note, congratulations on keeping Sarunas one more year. I would not have been surprised to see Toronto hire him, I think he will be coaching in the NBA soon but love him staying Zalgiris for now.

And unfortunately that led to Ira losing the spot on the team, as previously he'd been the naturalized player.

It's really not, only 2 of the entire roster, Delly and Thong will be on their Olympic team. But again, it's still a good win for Japan.

So does India. But they're not demanding that other nations and sports bodies call a sovereign nation by a different name. China is being a butt hurt bully over this stupid Chinese Taipei crap and it's offensive to the entire country of Taiwan.
