Report: Here’s how San Diego State finds star point guards: See who is transferring from Washington State.

It happened in 2010 with Xavier Thames, who would become Mountain West player of the year and lead the Aztecs to the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16.

Now they’re getting Malachi Flynn, who is transferring after averaging 15.8 points and 4.3 assists for the Cougars as a sophomore last season. Flynn announced his commitment Monday after a recruitment that included interest from dozens of schools, including Baylor, Texas A&M and Gonzaga. He took recruiting visits to Creighton of the Big East and SDSU last month.

A Pac-12 coach called it “a huge get … Flynn is very good.”

He must sit out next season per NCAA transfer regulations and will have two years of eligibility remaining, but that fits perfectly with SDSU’s roster dynamics. Starting point guard Devin Watson is entering his senior season. Flynn would take the reins the following season.

Thanks jazz. Was curious where he would land.

Best of luck, Malachi.
