Here is the situation.

Elite Eight, we are down by 2 to UNC, 6 seconds left in the game. Whom on the team do you want taking the last shot to tie? Or better yet, taking the 3 for the W and the trip to the Final Four?

For ME,

Tie = Pargo
Win = Downs

Pargo on both counts.

I'm contrary...

To tie - Heytvelt for the demoralizing alley-oop dunk (think UW game opening)

To win - Downs

I'd say, who ever has the open shot. Except in the case where the offense breaks down, then Pargo would create off the dribble. All of this is completely situational dependent.

BUT i want the open man to take the shot. If that is pargo, so be it.

If not . . .

I think it ought to be one of those daily drills, fwiw, since it seems to happen alot. BUT there is/was nothing more frustrating for me at least than seeing someone trying to force a shot with another zag open.

That ought to be a crime.

I think what we will see in this type of situation throughout the year is Pargo trying to create something off the dribble. If he can get to the hole great, if they collapse he will kick out to Downs or others for the open shot.

Having a guy so adept at taking his man off the dribble like Pargo is a great advantage for a team in the end of the game situation. Pargo has to just make the right choice... and start his move a little earlier:)

Tie = Pargo, if he starts his move 4 seconds earlier than last year.

Win = Downs or Pendo.

Any one of about 10 guys depending on the situation.

Win = Gray or Downs
tie = Kuso

to me the threes are many; Downs, Pendo, Josh, the two is easy - Austin Daye.

Ball in the hands of Pargo. He makes the move to the basket and then it will depend on the defense. Either leave him one on one, take it to the hoop or the other play is to have him use a Hondo screen to help get open. If not open kick it to the open person of Josh (if his man comes over) or Downs/Hondo/Gray/Bouldin depending on who is leaves his man to help. I think that we have the tools, we just have to use what the other team gives us. I will also say that we need to try and force what is not there.

Downs
Pendo

in that order

Pendo and Pendo The Indiana game last year really brought to my attention how valuable Pendo could be in tough situations. The ice in the veins seemed to apply and I think he would relish that roll. Pargo should of course get the whole ball rolling.

Josh to tie (closer to the basket)
Downs to win (assuming it's a three pointer)
Pargo for both (a drive and finish, drive and dish, drive and pop, maybe open three)

Pargo sets the offense (flex) and the ball gets into Bouldin's hands and he hits Pendo popping outside to the right of the key.....It's a 3, and The Gladiator leads the Zags into the Promise Land.

So Pendo's the Gladiator and the Gladiator's Moses?

I found it hard to respond to this scenario. Mainly because any one of the thirteen (or maybe twelve) active members of this team could prove to be the go-to guy in that type of situation. It's really hard to predict what type of team the Zag's will be come March, But I'll play along anyway. I envision a deep three from Downs, or a last second buzzer beating tip in from Heytvelt or Kuso to take it into overtime.
